So i've been wondering this, in all of my vodyani playthroughs i've noticed that after a certain period of time planets that im leeching's maximum essence output will drop (seems to be correlated to population or food stock), and after a period of time a planet will reach "0 population", when i do this with a minor faction the planet NEVER recovers for the rest of the game, and the minor faction never exists, practically - though you can do diploimacy and assimilate them.

my question is, is this intended, or is this a bug?

is leech supposed to directly steal population or food or is this a bug?

if it is intended as i suspect, how exactly does it work, and how can i counteract this? how can i avoid literally erasing a race when leeching? thanks

That's not the intended behaviour. The population should drop to 0, and recover slowly. If you keep leeching them however, they won't be able to grow again.

In order to diversify options for Vodyani, in the next update the Minor Factions will provide Essence once Brainwashed. Thus, you can also focus on brainwashing them to have an essence income without actively leeching them.

Neat! That'll make them more interesting, because at the moment the Vodyani can basically only bully the minor races.

This bring a really interesting lore to them, more like EL's Cultists, and less than the Cravers. As a player that values roleplaying in 4x this change makes very very happy. The team should consider Vodyani influence conquest to follow a similar route: transform captured systems into neutral ones that give essence in their Brainwashed state. This is really more akin to religious conversion, very nice!
