ENDLESS™ Space 2 is turn-based 4X space-strategy that launches players into the space colonization age of different civilizations within the ENDLESS™ Universe. Your Vision. Their Future.
Just a quick question here, The Hissho were a major faction in ES1 and I was a bit saddened to see that my favorite faction had been relegated to just a Minor one in ES2 (Early access)
And I’m wondering if they will make a return as a major faction or stay as they are in ES2 (Early access) and why the change happened from major to minor?
I’m guessing it was to do with the DEV’s wanting new and different variety of play for the players?
indeed, we wanted to bring in new factions, so we had to make room for the new ones. in an ideal world we would have kept them all, but it takes us so long to create a faction, between their unique gameplay, heroes, space ships, quests... that we could not have added more.
I loved the Hissho as well, I hope you like our new factions as well :)

Hi SpaceTroll,
Thanks for the clarity on this subject, I thought this might be the case for the Hissho but, I look forward to finding a new favorite faction in ES2 and can’t wait for others you have in store.
Worst case scenario, the Endless games have always had good modding options. You can always try to code them back in yourself after release. Heck, you already have some artwork done for you!
I would Vote for Hissho you would vote for Amoeba and vaulters would won it ;) .
Asides from that undisputable fact i think that some current minor factions/absent factions from ES1 will return in DLC or big expansion. But they will have to wait in queue behind newcomers which will be majority of DLC/Expansion's.
It's a shame that some of our favourite factions aren't returning as major factions in the initial release of ES2. But I'm actually really glad Amplitude are investing their time and effort developing new races. They could have just basically remade the original game with better graphics and new features, and people would have been satisfied, but instead they are choosing to grow the Endless universe into something interesting and unique. I really admire them for that.

Which is weird to me, because they're one of the least interesting factions.
Also I'd for for almost any of the "alien" races from ES1. The Disharmony, Sowers, Automatons, Amoeba and Hissho are all super cool groups. If any of them show up as major factions, I'll be thrilled.

Yes, we understand the constraints of time and budget when it comes to game development.
The thing is, we would have been happy with other ES1 factions becoming future expansion/DLC races for ES2. However, because some of them are now Minor Factions, that removes the possibility of ever seeing them added as Major Factions in the future.
The fact that iconic factions from the first game got cut out, like the Amoeba, ticked off many old fans, and while I see the need to "freshen" up the roster, I still can't help but feel that it wasn't the best of decisions in the long run.
What many of us loved about the first game was that the factions were truly alien. This time around, they all seem to be humanoids with different lore and design twists to them.
Don't get me wrong, I love the way they turned out, but again, I can't help but feel that if that effort would have been put into non-humanoid factions like the Amoeba or Sowers, then the results would have been even more breathtaking.

I'm curious, could you explain further on how you'd see the Amoeba and Sowers as major factions within the game of ES 2? What would make them special and how would their questlines work aligned with how the other major factions work? Personally I'm quite sad to see the Hissho go too but can't imagine having the Amoeba or Sowers within ES 2 as major faction as they have no interesting story to tell nor questline to follow where especially the Amoeba feel like they'd not have any interesting traits to add unless they would get some kind of brainmanipulating mechanics for diplomacy or something. Their background is solid but I just feel no drive for them to chase and be there unlike the other major factions atm.
I'm super curious how you'd see it implemented so I can see it from your perspective and maybe learn some cool stuff about them.

Maybe from your perspective. Finding an interesting story to tell from the faction's point of view wouldn't be hard.
You could go any number of ways from discovering more about their past and the Endless, to finding a purpose in this strange galaxy.
The Sowers for example could have a quest line dealing with a splintering society, fringe Sower groups who wish to deviate from their programming as Infrastructure builders, which is a big non-no in their society.
The Amoeba could find themselves in competition with a mysterious faction/figure/group who seeks to dominate the galaxy from the shadows, which would conflict with their efforts to bring about galactic peace.
Also I wouldn't worry about the mechanics of their game play that much. It would be easy to redesign them and create new traits for the older factions. Heck, Amplitude already revamped 4 of them. The Horatio for example, who were based on expansion and cloning heroes in the first game are now all about assimilation of minor factions.
If the devs really wanted them as Major Factions in the game you can be damn sure they would have worked out these tiny kinks.
I personally would love an Ecologist Amoeba faction that gets bonuses based on how many alliances, trading partners or how ethnically diverse their empire is. A play-style based on expansion, trade or diplomacy would be awesome. Or, for a darker twist, they could have a faction affinity that could foment rebellions in unfriendly empires.
The possibilities are Endless. Just because you personally don't see them, doesn't mean there aren't fans out there who do. You have to keep an open mind.

Having them as a minor does not preclude them from being a major. In fact, I would actually argue the opposite: The Minor races have the best shot at becoming full-races down the line. They already have half the work done in terms of art assets, they already exist within the lore and they already have small details like populations and ideologies done.
This part I agree with. I too would prefer we stick to the factions we already have and have grown attached to. New, just for the sake of being new, is silly to me. I also agree about the fact the most alien races being abandonned is a little disappointing.
