Population growth control: How does it work?

As it stands, I have no idea how to use luxury resources to encourage the growth of a particular species
Right now all I see are question marks, and I've tried buying ever type of luxury resource on the marketplace seeing if it would allow me to figure out which luxury resource goes with which species. Is there a particular tech I need to unlock this feature, get to a certain level in one of the tech tree quadrants, or is there something else I need to do?

Hi Ridiculi!

Each species gets a luxury assigned at galaxy generation. Some will have common luxuries assigned, others uncommon or even rare - the question marks means you haven't yet discovered the Luxury resource.

To find them, try unlocking technologies that give you access to more Curiosities in the Science & Technology Quadrant, then go out and explore

There are no other prerequisite to using this feature. Hope this helps!

Cheers,

You can also buy 1 unit of each luxury ressource available in the market place to discover which one can boost the population growth of a particular species ;)

I was also wondering how this worked. Thanks for clearing things up, Kynrael.

Wow very interesting finding.

What annoyed me was that I didn't know which resource use for each minor until discovered it, so I didn't know what to buy into market in case I didn't have the resource.

Seems this way solves this with dust (like most of things in endless games :D)

Yes, I was also very perplexed by this.  It said I needed a resourse, but I never figurered out where or what resource.

I was bit divided about this: before being a bonus for pop growth you have the trade screen where resources are not shown, but still you can look at where's in the galaxy using market screen. Actually never thought that with actual bonus pop, buying one of each resource can reveal all bonus, I thought you had to find them using exploration.

I think that maintaining this resources hidden in one side is good, cause you don't know what there's out there until you explore, thus making eXploration more interesting (and normally this is the weak X of 4X). But in the other hand, the previous becomes a no sense, as by simply looking at market (true, you have to unlock the tech, but I'm sure most people will do anyway) you got this info, and buying one of each resource you get also the info of its effects when upgrading systems, and from what Belhoriann said you also know what bones gives you to pop growth.

So actually not much sense in hiding them. I was even thinking of making a poll to see if ppl wants this revealed from start, or just buy one of each, but I want to rethink this a bit, as instead of showing what is in the galaxy, another option, can be show what each pop want, and in trade screen show which bonus gives you each resource when leveling a system with a "0" over it. Thus you know what each resource gives, but not what is in the galaxy (may be can deduce something with pop bonus, but hard to deduce all until you found all minors, implying you explored most of galaxy and probably found the resources anyway). Here also add that most resources are put in a table, with the column indicating what bonus gives and the row corresponding to a tier, being similar bonus per tier, and after some games you have an idea of the position of most resources in this table.
