here are some of my experiences from trying to play MP with a friend of mine:
- new Game Setup screen is better, yet one still needs look a bit to find the corresponding buttons (it was not that obvious to me where I would change the game to friends/public)
- after changing the difficulty slider it kept on jumping between the former and the new setting. Same problem with the round timer slider in the advanced options.
- desync error in first round... meh. We kept on playing and it seemed like everything was working properly (except for the same error message each round end) until:
- my friend got besieged by a sophon fleet and he couldn't see it, whilst I could (since I was hosting). Later, a battle needed to be resolved before round end, but he had no battle dialog.
Sure, the last line is probably only fault of the desync, just wanted to add it.
In any case, I'm terribly happy to be finally able to play ES2 in MP, tbh. ^^ Though, the AI seems even more unfriendly than before (y no love for humie players... i just wanna backstab ya...), or maybe they are just quicker to voice their opinion than before. xD
I'm also having a blast with MP so far. As for the desync issue, if you simply return to the lobby as host (the other players will too) and 'start' the game again, it will pick up from where you stop - and it will, in most cases, be synchronised again. This is a temporary fix though - eventually it tends to desync, but the same process can be applied again.
Also, once during an MP match the game somehow re-synced itself (o.0) I was pleasantly surprised. But its only ever happened once.
Are you guys watching combat or using fast animation speed instead of normal animation speed? Both are possible causes of out of synchs currently. Not saying it is perfect without these but in my two MP game experiences the first with animation speed higher was much more out of sync than the game with normal animation speeds. In any case nice to see reports from other MP players ! Hopefully we can all contribute to make the MP really good in ES2 :)
we play with normal animation speed and we don't look all battle but even if we don't have fight in one turn we have desync (not every turn like i said but every 1-10 turn )
