I actually like the visual effects for group combat, though there is no need to watch it I find it fairly interesting to watch.  However, I wouldn't mind an option to speed up the visuals of the ground combat a bit, I think I would watch it a little more if there was an option to do that.  

Noticed the poll might actually be bugged?

It's better than nothing.I like seeing the races each has their own units.It does look like an 18th century battle rather than watching a world get conquered.I also feel battles should last a lot longer in turns.

Had a craver army big enough it crashed the game, so I try not to in the late game. Otherwise I tend to enjoy it(love the designs and seeing what infantry they have can tell you a lot about their minor factions and other conquests.)
