Predictions about the Unfallen

Now call me daft but I think the Unfallen's design will be "sea-based". To back up, the only thing I got is a VIP who told me that the Unfallen will be everything you never thought. So I went thinking, how can you make a plant based faction completely different from all other plant based races? It's simple, make their design sea-based. Think about it. Look at the concept art for the ships and heroes. The ships can look like corals with juts of fins coming out. The hero could look like he/she is draped in seaweed with coral and driftwood as the main base for his body. It would be very creative if the Unfallen's design was sea-based. Wonder how they'll turn out.

I thought if you'd want to mix up the "tree-person" motif, the easiest way would be to make them cyborgs :D Strap on some metal pieces, and they'd look much different than how you'd normally expect a plant based race to look.

I hope they go for the Norse colossus sized Tree people look with them. And they have to start on a Forest type planet.

Better yet, these tree-people are actually virulent consumers. What's more unexpected than a violently warlike plant? Think of them as having evolved from the carnivorous fauna of Endless Space. Their Dust-induced idea of peace is the complete destruction of non-floral life, and as Seconds they push for this in order to solidify their place on their new worlds as Thirds to later birth more Firsts that will continue the cycle. It's hard to take out deeply rooted enemies from a planet, even more so when they're literally rooted into it.

Ooooor they're just literally pacifist plants, and in expecting so much unexpected stuff about them we fail to expect that they are, in actuality, mundane as hell.

They're pacifists, not "pacifists."

As for the gameplay, you'll see when we're ready to reveal them.

Ah, so they're insidiously pacifist! Unless I'm parsing that sentence wrong. :P

I'm guessing from this that they will not have options to declare war. Will be fun to see how this mechanic is implemented this time round.

Some complete speculation: What if they took over systems using population? You can ship your population to other players system's and if your population reaches a percentage threshold over other populations then you gain control of that system (maybe after a set number of turns like the influence mechanic). This would force opponents to carefully manage any Unfallen populations in their systems, and make razing systems a serious consideration. Of course, you could completely screw over the Unfallen by colonizing terrible systems, and send their population there (I already do this occasionally with Craver populations). Alternatively, you can destroy the population ships before they reach you, requiring some defensive fleets. Handling warfare would be a bit difficult, but I'm guessing with the introduction of bombers, you might just have to bomb the hell out of Unfallen systems before taking them over. I guess the other issue might be that systems reach pop limit pretty fast.

Whatever the case, really looking forward to release.

More like the first image of their corvette class ship...

Anyways, from one of the screenshots posted by devs on tweeter I noticed the Gargantuan Pops trait on the Faction Creation screen. I don't know what it does exactly, but I'm sure it belongs to the Unfallen, as they can grow to immense sizes.
