Hero jumped from Level 2 to level 13 in one turn

Is that a bug?


Nelly "Shaken" Sira Ninpere. It was my 4th hero and none of the others did that. I literally got 12 experience points in one turn and was able to assign hem all.


I can't reproduce it. My game had froze solid a couple turns before durig a battle (another story htere) and I had to kill the game

It's a big jump but not impossible. Did you buyout an entire production queue (including a wonder or 2) in that hero's system?

Is an unique building: Yeah, I think something is still to be reviewed on how Heroes level, I got a 23 levels on a Lvl 2 hero by finishing the Wonder of trade (don't recall the name), It has at beta version but I guess they still didn't address it.

It is Empire Wonder. Most of the time, hero will get big jump from Wonder since it need a lot of industrial point. Buyout work too; if you buy an entire system improvement then hero that assign there will skyrocket in their level.

Governors get XP related to what is build.

during EA I found a system to quickly lvl up new heroes, may be considered an exploit.

If you made a ship without any modules and the cheaper hull, then call it "CHEAP", put a new hero in a system with high industry output and a lot of these CHEAP ships into queue, the hero will easily gain various lvls each turn. Explained to devs and they said they will balance it. Never tried this after release, so actually not sure if the hero XP is related to spend ind (which brings a better exploit: just assign you lowest lvl hero into a system the turn before it produces a wonder) or the number of constructions.

Amplitude is aware of this, and sure it will be fixed.


May be a balanced solution is to not allow a hero gain more than one lvl per turn. If the hero has XP to gain two lvls, the remaining won't be lost, but kept, and next turn the hero will gain the next lvl. This way, even if a hero gain enough XP to gain 25 lvlvs in a turn, it will take 25 turns (one lvl each) to take fully advantage. Still not sure about this, cause it can lead to a tedious tur-start, but of course limits this kind of eploits and makes more interest in leveling academy or going to market for developed heroes.

Is something of a bug, my guess is about how the hero earn new levels:


Lets say to level 2 needs 60 XP, level 3 80 XP, lvl 4 100XP...


However if you finish a building that gives 600XP at lvl 2, the hero gets 10 levels. This would be possible if each level gets the current treshold for calculation (60XP needed)

My anecdotal experience indicates that a high academy level relative to the hero also makes a huge difference.    My experience seems to indicate that a level 1 guy leveling to 2 in a world with an academy at power level 9 gets levels 2-9 for free and then the XP for whatever was built to trigger that level up is tacked on at the end. 


Mind you, your explanation has similar potential and these things are not mutually exclusive.

Do Heroes on ships gain additional experience from battle? Seems like my ship bound heroes lag behind their planet bound brethren.

They indeed do. They also get XP from exploring curiosities and I believe just discovering new systems. I was surprised at how quickly I leveled up my starting Admiral Lumeris hero. I almost always go for a Governor, but switched up for variety's sake this game. I won the "Be the First to have a Hero Reach Level 9" achievement that game. If you toss some probes on their ship and use them in tandem with your explorer ships, odd are you will be very satisfied with their performance.

There does not seem to be very strong differences between military heroes and system heroes when it comes to traits. The traist seem to just blend together. Everyone is everything when maxed out. In ES it was pretty clear.

Ya, my system heroes far out gain my fleet heroes. I'm in war all the time.
