Right now, the characteristics of the planets are very strange.  

For example, in the description of the Ice planet it says that the planet can feed billions, but well, they are classified as Sterile.

Mediterranean are hot and not fertile, but arid are temperate. 

Artic, ice and barren seens very similar.

Is it final ?

It's a leftover from early days, when planet classification was different. I hope writers will give descriptions another path and correct all the logical mistakes, like WHY THE HELL APPLIED CASIMIR EFFECT GIVES ME FOOD TECHNOLOGIES AND NOT WORMHOLE TRAVERSAL?!
