Should I keep or terraform my sterile planet?

Has anyone done a pros/cons list or graph of either keeping or terraforming a sterile planet. I mean, hard numbers. I know there are buildings that benefit sterile planets only (e.g., extra pop slots, more Dust, more industry, etc) but I've been wondering whether the 'prime' planets would be better since they give more pop slots and the extra Food can just be converted into Industry via a late-game Tech. And since Industry can be converted into Science (75% max) or Dust (50% max), I figured that might make up for the planet-specific speciality buffs (e.g. Science for Arctic, Dust for Desert, etc.). Not to mention, there are buildings that benefit fertile planets (one of which gives an extra pop slot).

So, any ideas? Opinions?

I only really care about Sterile/Fertile if I'm playing Riftborn or trying to min/max a system for a specific FIDS. I've not done the numbers though, I just go for the ol' "pile up" bonuses.

Same with Undead, Riftborn benefit, and if you have a large number of minor race that benefits from sterile it can be useful.  Otherwise, you are basically wasting that minor population if you aren't benefitting from the bonus.

I also weight other planets in the system if there are.  Say if its a 4 planet system with a Terran or Forest, I don't worry too much about converting the sterile if I have the right minor race to populate it.

As s Craver, I tend to specialize my systems heavily, basically:

2 productions systems - 1st spamming wonders, 2nd spamming fleets

rest are science systems, eventually locked into Planet Cracker for infinite science teching

Production systems I try to find as hot as I can, ideally all Ash/Lava/Gas giants

Science systems - if planets are not cold, I terraform into something with more science

I process all non-Craver pops into food, just cannot resist it lol.

And I really, REALLY miss an option for downgrade terraforming as in ES1 (to turn a planet into methane gas giant for max production)

Is fertile/sterile supposed to be a random flag, or tied to planet type?

Tied to planet type.
