User Experience feedback from first time player

So I bought my friend a copy of endless space 2 and I decided to watch him play his first game in order to find out what part of the UI he had trouble with or things he didn't understand about the game. Here's the things I noted so far :


  • clicking the audio slider on the slide not audio didn't work and was confusing, user thought the game disallowed change until he finally figured out how to do it
  • didn't understand how progress of the entwining appeared when playing unfallen
  • Was confused as to what an anomaly would look like, wether probe would be launched to find anomaly
  • doesn't know if the academy is in his own system or elsewhere
  • couldn't figure out how to send a new ship out in space the turn it was constructed. Maybe the tutorial about the hangar should appear while in galactic view when your first ship is finished?
  • guardians can't be queued up from the system view (generally searching anomaly was always a confusing experience, between queuing it in system view, then going back to space to select the exploration ship to send the last couple probes to the guardians curiosities)

Also my friend played endless space before and has some experience with other 4x game (stellaris, civ, etc.)

As a new player to the Endless series (though, not to 4X), I definitely had/have some troubles with how opaque the information can be at times. Just recently, I had trouble discerning how to read and understand enemy ship loadouts. I also still don't understand which weapons have higher crticial bonus'.


Great game, that needs some more documentation.
