Does anyone know if cross-platform (Win/Mac) steam cloud sync is supported in latest release versions of ES2? (1.0.57 or 1.0.60, for example)  Wondering if I can sync game saves between a Win10 desktop and Macbook Pro.

Just set up a Win10 system and tested cross-platform Mac/Win steam cloud sync.

It does NOT work.  Apparently it is not supported (yet?).

Another note here...  I dual-machine occassionally (travel) and the syncing can be pretty "touchy".

1) On your last turn, before you want to Synch, give the file an unique name.

2) Close ES2, go back to your desktop then find the Steam Icon in your systray and hover over it (you should see a syncing message)

3) Do not turn off your machine or close steam till this syncing message goes away.

3b) If you did not get a syncing message, kill the steam client from the taskmanager, and restart it. Then quickly go to library and hover over ES2. You should see the syncing message come up.

3c) If it STILL does not come up, restart ES2, load the game, load the save game that you are trying to sync, then quit without making a move.

4) At this point Steam should have synced, go to your other machine, start steam, quickly click on library, then hover over SC2, you should see the syncing command...

5) If you did not see the syncing command, you will need to go do 3b on your the computer that is attempting to recieve the file (stop steam, kill in task manager, restart).

6) Usually after 2 or three tries you can always force a sync.

I also came here to report that I cannot get Steam Cloud to work, at least between Windows and Mac machines. I'd love to see this fixed as I switch often between my desktop and laptop.

Cross-platform cloud sync cannot work between Mac and Windows, because both machines have different file structures in which the saves are stored. Therefore, saves are not in the same folders and Steam doesn't pick them up to sync them.

At this stage of development, it'd be a nightmare to change this folder as it would come with a host of issues, which means that it is very unlikely that we'll change it.

Ok thanks for the status update, really appreciate it!  I understand this could be very difficult if it is not part of the current code architecture.

For future Amplitude games (ES3! :-), maybe you can factor this into the game architecture at the outset.  It should be feasible, I think, since there are other games that somehow have architected working solutions (XCOM2, Stellaris, MooCts, to name just a few very recent ones).

Thanks again and keep up the great work!

Oh, it is definitely doable, it is just that doing it now would be exceedingly painful. So duly noted, for our next games we'll make sure to make it happen. ;)
