How can i see if a planet has a moon? I've uncovered like 20 or 30 systems now and none of the planet appears to have a moon, or I am just not able to find it. Can anyone help? What does it look like when a planet has a moon?

Kind of wondering the same thing. I have seen planets with moon anomalies but never spotted the actual moon orbiting it. This was not the case in ES1.

You can see moons, they're just very small. I'm not sure if they are visible in galaxy view - I've only seen them in system view. It's definitely annoying.

I'm pretty sure i could see the moon before one of the recent updates. Maybe a bug related to the new orbiting space stations?

Exactly, they're small. If you zomm the planet in sytem view you should be able to see them. Also remember they're orbiting the planet, so sometimes are not visible, just wait until next orbit.

As far as my sight arrives they're not visible from galaxy view, but maybe this the reason I'm using glasses.

don't really know how rare the moon anomalies are but I barely see more then 1 of them every 10 systems maybe more?

so they are relatively rare, also the AI tends to remove them instead of building the moon bases.

How would you remove moons? The explore lunar anomaly function? I thought that that was just a placeholder that did nothing, and is there for when Amplitude implements such things as lunar temples and whatnot like we had in the original ES.

I've built the moon base in a system, explored the lunar anomaly(s), and still gained the moon base dust+science yields.

In ES1, every planet had anomaly slots which could contain the random stuff like hostile fauna/dust ruins/acid rain which provide a buff or debuff to the planet, and whether or not the planet had a moon was generated separately and had its own special slot. You'd generally find that most systems had one or more planets with moons, and the moon would not take the place of another anomaly. In ES2, moons are a regular anomaly, and the chance to spawn them is rolled against all the other anomalies. Since there are only three moon anomalies (single moon, binary moons, multiple moons) out of several dozen anomalies total, the chance to get a moon is MUCH lower in ES2 than it was in ES1. It's not uncommon to have a whole empire of 20 systems where the number of planets wtih moons can be counted on one hand.

I liked the moon system better in ES1, where moons were a separate spawn from anomalies and something you had regularly. The moons could also be searched and sometimes had their own lunar anomalies which provided unique bonuses, and even empty moons were a benefit to several buildings which gave yields based on number of moons. In ES2 there's one researchable moon building, and one moon building which can be unlocked by searching curiosities, and you very rarely have more than one planet with moons in any given system.

Moons as an anomaly in ES2 is completely random. you could have a galaxy with only very few systems that have moons. currently i'm playing the Cravers on Endless difficulty, large map with 8 players, minor civ numbers set to normal, constellation is set on few. i have already defeated the UE, Horatio, and the Vodyani, and all of their systems do not have moon. I'm currently invading the Rift Born, I will find out if their systems have any moons.

Well, I also noticed that game is very skimpy with moons, much more than ES1. Based on Solar system, and there is no reason to believe that it is somehow exception, moons should be regularity, not anomaly. Reasonably is to believe that only small planets nearest to star don't have moons, because gravity from stars shall prevent their creation (like Mercury and Venus). Other planets, especially large ones should have moons, in fact lots of them.

So if can be made some kind of balance, more moon anomalies compared with other, but with less benefits can be maybe more realistic and maybe more interesting in game.

Gas giants, in particular, should have plenty of moons.

The moon-tech is pretty worthless right now, as so few systems reliably have any moons at all.
