I gonna make a guess, but the color palete of the carrier's ship is the same as the Academy's. So I will assume those are Academy carrier ships along with Academy seekers, going into hyperspace trying to escape a Vaulter's attack.

Interestingly, the nose of this central carrier with the ‘hyperspace’ visual effect, appears to share some resemblance to the wireframe models on the galaxy map in-game. 

Just a wild thought, but possibly the wireframe models are not just simplified visual representations of actual ships, but they could have been actual depiction of the ships in hyperspace or something all along. 

I've been wondering about that art, as well.

While the color scheme might be reminiscent of the Academy ships, the aesthetic of them is otherwise very different. These ships are much more angular than the Academy ships. I could definitely see them being something new.

To me they're of a profile with Craver Bishop-class ships. But the design is obviously different and they have Vaulter-style command decks. I can't see that the image relates directly with anything in the new patch notes, but maybe I'll have to just play a game and see.

These are indeed Academy warships, and this event occurs as part of the Vaulter faction quest! The model is unique to the Academy (though tbh it based on some unused concept art).

Oh awesome ! I’m guessing it’s from the military line of the quest (as opposed to the Seeker/Scientists that I always choose) 

Any chance we’ll ever be able to use them in game somewhere in the future ? 

The idea of the Academy having a (possibly quest related) military presence in-game would be pretty damn neat, especially for the final acts of the Academy questline.  Possibly some NPC pressure could be helpful to actually making that less of a stalemate, and a little more asymmetrical.
