Emprire Chronicles never displays any of my finished games.  It just sits and churns on "Loading Chronicles"...

Oddly enough, this was one of the suggestions I asked for and got put in the game because it adds alot of value for me to be able to compete against myself; however it doesn't work!

Tips? Suggestions?

======================= Edit with Work Around =====================

Fixed!   Saved games from Nov 2017 and earlier were causing the Empire Chronicles to never finish loading.

Thank you Frogsquadron for your guideance through the troubleshooting.  The team might look at excluding older save games or save games before "date" if others are reporting the same issues.

For those of you with the issue:

1) Fire up the game - delete saved games from Nov 2017 and earlier.

2) Close the game.
3) Go to /users/<user name>/documents/Endless Space 2/End Game Summaries

4) Move or Remove the bin files located here.

5) Start the game and you should be fixed.

This could be related to the fact that they shifted the Empire Chronicles from loading during game start up to loading (I'm fairly certain) when you open the actual menu up. It took a long time to load during start up, resulting in a lot of complaints and a fix, so it's probably just taking an extra long time to load in your menu. Or there's a bug. There can always be a bug.

Heh.  So I have left my screen open for ~15 minutes and it is still just spinning.  Maybe I will give it an hour and see what happens.

I once moved the data located in the folder: "documents/Endless Space 2/End Game Summaries" in a new created folder (same place called End Game Summaries Backup) for to speed up the time waiting for main menu (it was a hint from a user). From that day the new games empire chronicles started to work.

Interesting.

I did as you mentioned.

Restarted the game, went to Chronicles... and waited 5 minutes.

Nothing showed on the screen.

But, in the folder were the SAME exact bin files as those I moved into the backup folders.  I wonder if it is getting stuck on one of them?

And if so... how do I fix this?   Delete my older save games?  (It was processing as far back as Nov 2017)

Can I ask you guys for your diagnostics files after trying to access chronicles?

Diagnostic files (located by default under "C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\Documents\Endless Space 2\Temporary Files" -- for Mac users: "User/YOUR_USER_NAME/Library/Application Support/Endless Space 2/Temporary Files") and select the correct file by looking at the name like "Diagnostics - 2016'10'11 @1407'46''" that gives you the date and hour which should correspond to a save file)

Good feedback kurtee.  I just assumed it was my old saved games that was causing my issue, but as you pointed out, it could be any save game that can trigger the issue.

I suspect that the in the directory where the bin files are located, that there will be a bin file with the date in the name from the same save game file that is causing the empire summary to fail loading.

Of course, I didn't backup my save games before I deleted them... So I won't be able to test the situation until/if it happens again.

Note that I deleted all my previous saved games - except for my current game because ...

I noticed that the logs, which are in HTML, and with each file corresponds to a save game as decribed in one of the dev's reply above,

in C:\Users\[user name]\Documents\Endless Space 2\Temporary Files,

all had "error" messages.

It took a while for the browser to display some of the files because some of the logs had huge file-sizes.

I suppose, you can delete only the save files with logs that had errors to get Chronicles to work.

In my case, all the logs had errors.

When I completed my current game, Chronicles worked.

I can see why some people were reporting VERY long game load times when the Emprire Chronicles were being loaded differently before a recent patch changed them.  I would suggest that the game automatically look in the previous logs for errors regarding save game files that are causing errors, then flag those as bad and not attempt to load those into the summary in the future.  Could be a quick bandaid to the issue.  Of course this approach does not address the core issue(s) of what is causing those bad save games in the first place.   =)

Glad you got it fixed!
