I've been rereading the Last Flight of the Grey Owl recently and the fact that the main character reffers to humans as "Raian humanoids" made me scratch my head a tiny bit.
Since Raia colonization and the UE creation has originated from the now deceased Mezari empire, and that the Mezari thrived during a time where the Endless were already long dead for the most part (Horatio looking for and using the old abandoned Auriga lab; Kinete Muldaur being captured by Vodyanis, which themselves came after the Endless), I was wondering how all of this fits together. Or maybe I'm completely misunderstanding the history of the Endless universe. Could it be that Mezari have been around at the same time as the Endless, colonized Raia before the Dust Wars? Does that mean the Raians/UE somewhat lost knowledge of spaceflight for thousands of years? Were they just not interested in expending til recent events? Should we assume that most factions are already galactic empires at the beginning of the game even though they start with a single planet for balance reasons?

FTL travel is only non-wibbly on the galactic scale and even then there's a reason why time is measured in "turns" and not months or years.

Can’t create quick links on my phone but here are some links discussing what you’re asking:

I’ll post more about this & add links (if I can find them) once I get to a computer, but those links are super thorough about the Mezari lore

Yeah I've read those before, but I couldn't find anything specific about the Raians and the apparent anachronism in the LFotGO short novel (or maybe I missed it).

Edit: nevermind, found some while rereading thoroughly, but it doesn't really address the issue about Raians being a thing during the Dust Wars, especially when the United Empire is considered one of the youngest factions.

I'm pretty sure that the Raians that were mentioned in the LFotGO were a completely different humanoid species, as Raia by the time of the Mezari colonization is described as a  "(The first Mezari starships arrived millennia ago, landing on) a green, virginal–and empty–planet of breathtaking, fecund wildernesses." and the Endless Dust Wars were more than a few thousand years ago (for reference, the end game event of Endless Legend was around a thousand years before the events of ES2; this was stated in the Vaulter Questline). So over the course of thousands to tens of thousands of years, any traces of the original Raian inhabitants could have easily disappeared.

I guess that'll be my headcanon until we (or if we ever) get more info on that time period. I was kinda curious how people would interpret it.
