I could be wrong but want to make sure. I am a bit upset at the moment. I noticed we got a new update just now. I never noticed this before but noticed it now. I am trying to make a new race and noticed that I can't choose options. WTF. I am guessing because I haven't bought the DLC yet I can't use them. Fair enough.

What is not fair is, why is it isntalled on my computer? Is this a sleazy tactic that EA or other companies do. By that they install and bloat our hard drive with unwanted content and if we decide to buy it, it's unlocked then.

So how come it's not installed when I buy it. After all, if it's on my hard drive I should be able to use it. It shouldn't be disabled. I was planning to buy the all the DLC on my next pay check, but this business practice I do not like.

If you don't want me to use the content since I didn't buy it, that I can understand, but don't install it on my computer. I thought we were suppose to get away from this sleazy tactic. While the file size might not be huge, this is only the begining. What is next a full fledge expansion pack is going to be installed on my PC taking up gigabytes of data and if I don't buy it, it's hogging up my space? No thank you.

Am I wrong here in thinking this? If so why? Do you like this practice? I can't remember the name but I remember an EA game that had the DLC installed on people's hard drive and people were upset it was taking up space when they didn't want the DLC. So is Amplitude and Sega becoming like EA now? Please correct me if I am wrong. I am loving this game but upset at this.

I got two updates. One was around 500MB. This was probably the patch. Then I bought the DLCs a couple of minutes ago and Steam started another download of ~140MB. It doesn't sound to me as if the DLCs were already included in the first 500MB patch.

edit: just checked: the second ~140MB download was the Soundtrack

The DLC content is installed even if you have not purchased it, this is so that you can play MP with people who have the DLC.
If the Host of a game has the DLC then everyone else get to play with it regardless of if they own it or not.

Really? Wow, that is great of the developers. I will have to take what I said back then. I didn't know that. This is good to know. Sorry for the accusations then. I appologize labeling all companies together.

I believe that multiplayer is the most common reason for downloading DLC that you don't own.  Even if you can't personally use the stuff in multiplayer, many games allow each player in the game to use the stuff they personally own (e.g. I can play as a DLC character even if you didn't buy that DLC), and that means everyone in the game has to have the appropriate assets and game logic to represent the players who are using it.

Otherwise, players who own the DLC would need to disable it in order to play with players who don't, and that makes it harder to entice people to buy the DLC in the first place.
