I may just be missing something here, but it seems like ES2 is very light on game start options. For example, ES1 let you control the size of systems, the starting system quality, and several other aspects. I feel like the options have been simplified for whatever reason. Was there a reason for this other than time constraints? And will we ever see a return of more customization?

Apologies if this has been brought up before.

Somewhat related. I would like to see a somewhat comprehensive explaination of the galaxy types. It's not clear if there are any mechanical differences beyond just the shape, such as some having more gates than others. What are the reasons one would choose one over another?

AFAIK the galaxy shape just determines spawn points along with access to the rest of the galaxy and other players. If you want immediate action you might pick twin elliptical or ring. If you want to stay isolated for a bit you might go with spiral.

I may be wrong but aren't most of the options you ask allready there? My memory can fail me but I'm pretty sure the home system quality is in the advanced option.

Think with ES2 is that some config options are in sub-menus, you have to open in game setup.

Yes, but in those sub-menus, the only options for home system quality are "chaotic" and "normal". No options for poor, rich, etc.
