What's on the Imperial soldiers' backs?

I'm working on a UE soldier costume for a con, and whenever I'm looking at the reference material I see a tube on the helmet that goes to the back and noticed that there's never a clear shot of their backside.

Is it some sort of backpack like the pilots from the Unfallen trailer or a larger version of the tubes on the waist of Stormtroopers from Star Wars?

Thanks in advance.

I had a chat with Aurel, who drew this concept art and much of the Empire's artwork. Basically this is some version of the backpack seen in the Unfallen trailer, with the exception that these are troopers, not pilots, so theirs is a bit different because it hosts other life support systems, in case there is some hot ship boarding action, or other fighting in an unpressurized environment.

Hope this helps, and please do post pictures of the results!

Are their swords the same blocky with notches design from Legend and are they usally big like the ones the spirtes have in the ground combat view in ES2.

To finish things off, since most of the other questions are just basically being anal about small things, is the design from ES1 and the splash art with the protruding cone the typical one.

I think it is more iconic, but I see the more typical helmet design such as the ones from the Unfallen and UE Trailer make me think the iconic one is for more of a ceremonial or elite role short of the Sheredyns.

The United Empire isn't present in Endless Legends, but as for the weapons from ES2; they could be simple rifles like seen when the Cravers vs. Humans art (I can try and find the picture if you want), the Unfallen trailer, or like ones in the Black Market Quest. The ones you see in ground combat are, I believe, rifles, not swords.

The helmet designs vary. The typical 'cone' one is probably a typical infantry or marine variant; while the one viewed in the Unfallen trailer is probably used by pilots and personnel on starships (a similar design is seen in the art where the Craver is boarding a human ship). As for the Sheredyn, that helmet is probably not just ceremonial, since the Sheredyn guard wouldn't be wearing their ceremonial gear while guarding the Emperor.

There are probably a number of other UE helmet variants too, like the one that Oleg (UE Science/Guardian Hero) is wearing.

I did not say they were present in Legend, I asked if ES2 melee weapons design were similar to Legend and it's probably yes since the Prime Craver hero has blades that share the blockly and sometimes notched aesthetic that I'd use to describe Legend weapon designs barring expections where they get more flowly or bulbous in more advanced tiers.

The sprites in ground combat, from what I see, carry a long rifle around their waist and have a sword with them shown by the stick object extending backwards from their waist, their attack animation shows them hitting the enemy first in melee before shooting them with the rifle. I could be wrong though and it could be that they're hitting them with their rifle and then shooting them.

The Unfallen trailer soldiers were confirmed as troopers by Frogsquadron in the earier post and I was asking if the cone helmets were ceremonial or defined them as elite, just not as elite as the Sheredyn, the latter would probably the case if one of them happens to be true since we see them fighting the Riftborn in artwork on the Riftborn's page on the wiki.

I agree there are variants, various media depicting the UE confirms that, I'm asking if the cone is more common than the variants we would consider more practical.

As for the Craver artwork humans, I think they're the generic humans present in most of the non-aligned quests like this one or the bearded man in the Legend non-aligned and other pictures quests. Although, they could be another variant that I disregarded since they lacked the primary color of red since they use it as a secondary color instead.

Oh, I assumed by your use of "their swords" and then the mentioning of Legends that you were stating that the UE was present in Legend, my bad lol.

As for their design being similar, I'd assume as much, as Amplitude is the studio behind both games and the styles would be directly related cuz of this (among other things).

I'm pretty positive the Coned/Hat like helmets are just (one of) the standard variants. The United Empire population image shows thousands of Imperial Soldiers walking from one of the Battlecruisers so that kinda implies that that helmet variant is the most widely used (from an art perspective). Not sure how practical it would be to have a giant cone/hat on top of a helmet, but the helmet Oleg wears, or the one from the Cravers/Human artwork seems the most practical to me.

As for that artwork, I think that's a United Empire soldier, the colors and the style of his clothing/armor match that of the UE, and his helmet is reminiscent of the Troopers from the Unfallen trailer and of Oleg.
