I am just curious why so much personal information is requested during the beta sign-up? As an avid player of ES, EL, and ES2, I would be interested in playtesting the next expansion, but the sign-up form makes me feel like I am entering into a sweepstakes at a kiosk in a shopping mall rather than opting into a game beta.

I am assuming a NDA is required, which binds you by law not to disclose any information found in such beta to the public, basically it holds you accountable to keeping your mouth shut on what you see :)

Also they probably want to know what kind of player you are (generally speaking) so they can view for feedback from perspective to help integrate it into the game to make it better, would also be another guess.

Cheers!

Thanks. Is the information we provide going to be used for any kind of marketing? I would rather not end up on some SEGA email spam list just because I wanted to do some beta-testing.

You could just mark the mail as spam and it will be all gone If you really have that much concerns.

It likely won’t be anything too much that drastically affects your life, and I don’t think SEGA is just gonna exclusively spam the small amount of people who beta-test, if they were going to send an email it would likely be to most, if not all players

for those who are curious Amplitude is quite careful with your real information, plus spam filters I think are available through every major email client in existance for a reason as well :)

This is coming from experience.  The amount of spam I recieved has never changed since previous beta tests.

I still believe that, in the modern days, its simply impossible to hide personal information from markerting, banks, and any kind of industry who wants your information.

I just heard from some people who made a cientifical test and they said something like: Whit 100 likes in facebook the internet has enough information to know more from you than your Wife knows. If facebook can actually know from a person more than a wife... How can we actually protect our privacy? by rejecting those privacy policy thingys when we read and doenst agree whit them? Im sorry, but i believe this world is * already in terms of privacy xD

Well as much as I enjoy discussing real-world politics in real life, I don't believe this is the correct forum to do so (as sometimes these discussions can become heated)

Amplitude is unlikely to ask for any serious personal information, stuff that, if used improperly could cause harm to your life or become a serious nuisance (such as unending spam emails, but as @Plutar put, they don't do that regardless).

At the end of the day, if you are worried about your information being used in a secret way or smth that you wouldn't approve of, then you don't need to sign up for the Beta, as it is voluntary. But I personally believe, and like @Plutar, with personal experience in Betas and Alphas (of different games) that Amplitude wouldn't use any of your information improperly.

Due to the GDPR which has recently come into effect, Amplitude/Sega would not be able to do sign you up for other newsletters ect.

In signing up for the beta you consent to receiving emails relevant to the closed beta, and as such you will only be receiving them about this beta (if your chosen) they can’t email you on other matters (unless you signed up for them somewhere else) the only exception I can think of is that they would be able to email you about new closed betas, but I doubt anyone would mind getting access to another beta (of course it’s unlikely they will do this, they will most likely just have another signup)

They would also need to state if they where doing anything else with your data (other than using it to pick candidates and creating the NDA for you to sign)

Although, truly anonymous data is not covered by the GDPR, so they may be able to do stuff like give a list of the favourite moments in an endless game to their designers to read over etc.

None of this information will be used for any purpose other than Amplitude game betas.

We've asked for a few questions related to your playstyle, etc, to get a better idea of what kind of player you are (we try to get a good mix in our betas to avoid overrepresentation by one group). The only identifying information we require, your full name, is used for legal purposes, to tie this sign-up to the NDA we'll require you to sign, should you be selected for the beta.

Happy to answer any other question you might have.
