What happened to the horatio clone mechanism

So I was playing ES 1, because a game in ES 1 is way faster than compared to ES 2.

Then I realized something, Horatio could clone heroes and I was like O_O.

Yeah, I remember now why I liked that race so much in ES 1, because it reminded me of these cool 80's sci fi movies, back then when movies were still good.

You know in ES 1 you get that 80s sci fi feeling that the horatio are the race that wants to turn everything in the universe into horatio, which fits perfectly into their lore and the population appears to be horatio in endless 1 and like in an 80s sci fi movie, it gives you that creepy scary cool feeling, of some weird system that tries to unify everything, like creating clones of just one person and filling the entire galaxy with it, while the rest of the galaxy either gets turned into horatio or gets killed.

That's so cool and so dramatic and not scary to a W40k point but more a creepy scary thing which adds more to the excitement.

Where did that clone mechanic go?

And wouldn't it be cool if horatio could turn other beings into horatio? Like in that 80s movies? because that's how I imagined that race when playing ES 1.

he is supposed to be able to turn minor pops into horatio pops later on in the game but last time I checked that abiity didn't work for custom factions.

It depends on your chosen traits, as long as I know. If you decided to remove the splice mechanics... your choice. I could be wrong about, as I don't choose to play custom factions (from my impression some kind of cheating as it leads to OP factions). A question of taste.

With Civil Engineers gone, cloning not that hrlpful. I also have a feeling this game is not so hero dependent as ES1 (just my opinion though. maybe just coz civil eng heroes were broken)

It does sort of live on in his quest line, which gives a large number of new Heroes. Important considering Heroes come already at level 5 or 10 when earned from quests.

no the Horatio ability is bound to the horatio skin.

You can research the tech but it just doesn't work you get no rewards or anything.

So that's not a bug?  Genetic recoding just doesn't function if you don't bring Horatio visual affinity?  That's disgusting.

Are you sure about this? We've tested it on our end and it seems to work as designed.

Definitely looking forward to that fix because I've run into it as well with custom factions.  It's the one little snag in my glorious Horatio splinter faction.

It is working fine for me - as a custom faction using Horatio affinity. Shows up in every construction queue, but can only be selected if there is population to beautify

Yeah but if it's supposed to show up in the "gene hunter" affinity then it should work with gene hunter.  If it's supposed to require Horatio then it needs to be marked as such and not even appear when you don't select the appropriate trait.  It's more of an oversight as far as I can tell.  It makes about as much sense as the Riftborn's reverse terraforming being tied to the continuum sculptors affinity instead of the riftborn visual.

but the tech shows up when you have the Horatio skin selected, so I assume it belonged with the Horatio skin.
