As most players know the quest ends kinda abprubtly without a follow up what actually happens in the fallout of the quest. To be blunt it sticks out like a sore thumb in an otherwise great game.

I always assumed a followup quest or an epilogue would be patched in at some point but we have a new addon now with another on the way and nothing of this gets mentioned anywhere (at least I haven't found it).

What are Amplitudes plans with this going forward? Will the quest ever be expanded to get a conclusion or is it supposed to continue in a sequel?

Hard to tell, but I'd bet we'll see the Academy questline fleshed out in a DLC/expansion release sometime in the future, whether it be the focus of it with a huge update or just a part of something else.

This or it could continue into the 3rd iteration of the Endless Space Series, in which the Lost would be introduced and the aftermath of whichever side you chose could be played out in some way/shape/or form. 

 It seems to me that the Lost will be implemented as a huge deal in an expansion at some point. Possibly the last expansion as a galaxy changing mega event similar to how Disharmony happened in ES1. 

 In my opinion, whenever that happens would be great closure to ES2 leading into maintenance mode before ES3. 

The VIPs have made our interest known for this too. I'd love to see a continuation of the main arc.

Yeah it's an odd end.This should be the endgame threat option as well know the lost are actually evil.

Still not as cliffhanging as the Unfallen faction questline... mother of all unanswered dodgy endings that offers no satisfying conclusion.
