Why do some star lanes have curvy lines and are thicker all of a sudden?

I am in the middle of a game and noticed some of the star lanes now have curvy lines in them and they are thicker with a gray area.  And no, its not the Unfallen tendrils.  I have seen those the whole game.  I think it has something to do with a big war I am now in but I am not sure.  Anybody know?

They're wormholes. You unlock them with a mid-tree technology and it takes all your motion points or half with a good enough Riftborn population to pass them.

Oh.  So a wormhole is just a star lane with faster travel time?

Yeah, Wormholes connect constellations

But unlike starlines Wormholes will generally consume all your movement points (there is a population bonus that makes it so only 50% of your movement points are consumed and a Riftborn Continuity that allows you to keep moving after the use of a wormhole)
