Probably anyone running Linux is aware but I thought I would mention using the new Steam Proton tool with Steamplay, I have tried ES2 and Endless Legend. Both are working without any noticable issue for me. I did a search for "linux" on the forum and it seems it was a highly voted request three years ago, then the project was put on hold. No worries now! You will need to set a launch option in steam for Endless Legend. -useembedded

Yes it works, at least for some people.

Did you manage to get entire playthrough through :). Game craps out on me about thirty turns in, by either crashing to desktop or freezing the user interface.

There are no errors anymore in logfile or in console stdout from proton. There used to be a lot of AI thread timeouts hoding the game, but not since last patch.

I suspect some issue on my end, since there are reports of flawless performace under proton. Would you kindly post some info for me to debug?

Namely:

  • What distro do you use
  • GPU - including driver (libre, nonfree and version)
  • mesa package version
  • llvm package version

Nevermind, found the problem. It had nothing to do with ESII, but with proton critical configuration.

If you run into issues under any other OS than SteamOS, Ubuntu or Debian you are probably hitting file decriptor limit from esync patchset.

Steps to rectify that here
