I'm absolutely flabbergasted by the Awakening content. Since Endless Legend (Shadows DLC) I have nothing but praise for the Amplitude.  In my opinion, they constantly grew since then. Even during ES2 development, they made a pleasant farewell to EL with the Tempest DLC. I believe during the development of ES2 the abandonment of the political system was a setback but the overhaul of the game was deep enough but the political system was the secret window shop feature to create the necessary buzz. It was unutilized nonetheless. Every ES2 DLC brought good content with it. Sure there was bugs & imbalances or unfun mechanics you can clearly see the big content in play. None I can foresee for The Awakening future.

I don't want to just find more different ways for the beat up the Awakening DLC, I just want to say I was lucky enough to be chosen few of the beta participants and even in beta stages, you could have witnessed fewer bugs. The level of quality of the Awakening nowhere near Amplitude standards. Just think of Supremacy or Penumbra and compare to this content, please.

I don't know the remaining roadmap for the ES2. I always assumed we will see 2 more DLC's but after the long wait for this one with this outcome. I don't know what to expect. I speculate most of the development time spent on the Academy AI and rules but I don't think it paid of. Now, I will stop about Awakening and write about a more general situation in Amplitude, I'm observing since the announcement of this DLC and onwards the Humankind.

Please do not departure ES2 with haste. It's clear that the window for the Humankind is kinda narrow but the Amplitude I knew doesn't make hasty development. Amplitude devs come up with an idea instant (while drinking beer) but taking their time to perfect it. The announcement of the Humankind was a little disheartening for me; it was using quite big words like "magnum opus" or "our dream project since beginning" it was quite shocking because of the Amplitude I remember was very passionate about not making Civ-like game. Nonetheless, I'm still curious about Amplitude's take on Civ-Like 4X; Civilization serries are something beyond 4X. So they are actually leaving their comfort zone with exceptional confidence which sounds to me, nervousness.

...which brings me to this DLC again. The Awakening. This better not be the farewell the fans deserved. Spending hundreds of hours, thinking about the game. All this accumulated energy into perfecting you guys vision. The Endless Space 2. Shouldn't go to waste.

I agree, definitely not comparable in quality to Amplitude standard. So many bugs that should have been obvious if they did an actual playtest remain, and the warnings in the log output are massive and numerous.

Oh so there WAS a beta. Nice.

My impression was there wasn't beta at all given the amount of bugs straight up encountered in a first playthrough.

But then there are still bugs and issues reported in previous betas that are still not fixed either.
So it does not seem like my participation would have changed much. Except for me getting a free key, so I would not complain. =D

Oh well.

At least I get to stream my "gamma" testing playthrough and then just go to a part of the video I encountered the bug and post it in action.

It's less hindering without the NDA really...
It's a team effort of G2G and I am willing to prePurchase, pay, and still do my part to make the game a better use experience.

From the looks of it, this is the ES2 we are going to be stuck with for years to come, given Mankind takes the spotlight.

We might aswell make the best of it.

As far as the actual content goes, it is not overly groundbreaking but on par with other releases.

It just needs a bit of polish here and there. Bugs are not too overly game impeding either.

Except the "if you want to play a multiplayer game, well you need to reload on turn 1 known issue" :-D

This expansion in terms of meaningful content it's one of the best along with supremacy, but it's the the worst in terms of polish.

I can live without it til they fix it. I never would have thought I'd see the day when I'm refunding an Amplitude DLC...ever!

Well you know post-launch bug is always a thing.  Maybe there's more now on this release because you know, market stuff obliges.  They wanted to do more DLC and they're doing a new game at the same time.

I'm not trying to excuse, but bugs like that are usually corrected within like 2 weeks or something so for a game like this its perfectly fine.  So if you like the new stuff but bugs bother you, fine but just wait so they patch them and you'll be able to enjoy it more.  I don't judge them on that, thought its always a mistake to push bugs or not do enough testing.

I cannot agree more with this. The game still has so much potential begging to be unleashed, it deserves to end on a much higher note.

Until now it was like - bugs will be fixed and now it is - they just moved on...
