I think I've seen the situation that's gonna make me uninstall this game.

I'm allied with a Sophons and another faction.  We are at war with another alliance (big alliance).

I go see the sophons, and offer him a Science coop agreement.  Sophons likes science, so they are VERY interested.

So its end up being a Science Agreement vs Science Agreement + 3k manpower + 100 antimater + 100 adamantium + 1 technologie !  So very very much in my advantage.  But i'm like ok !  He has a lot of theses ressources and no direct enemy on his border so...

Next turn... science agreement got cancel cause he dosen't have enough influence to pay for it.... litteraly next turn.

So I go see him again, offers his a Science Agreement, he wants it still very much (even if he can't pay to maintain it...).  So a made another trade Science Agreement vs Science Agreement + Tons of ressources + Techs.

Next turn again Science Agreement got cancel.

Rinse and repeat.  This is so bad I might not play ever again.

A recent patch made changes to the influence cost of Science/Trade Agreements (greatly increasing them) and I think it hasn't been properly accounted for in the AI. I'm not the biggest fan of that change myself, but in addition to it, it has noticibly worsened the reliability of aquiring or retaining one with an AI player.

I think AIs are excluded from influence upkeep, so it's you who doesn't have the cost to maintain it.

They used to be. But not now. They are no longer exempted from treaties upkeep, starting after ES2 1.5.3 patch.

True, Cat has said that the influence costs of AI are reduced, also they are not so eager anymore to start an agreement, if they cannot uphold it.

Also in the tooltip it also says, that THEY cannot maintain the science agreement f.i.

It is reported as a bug earlier because the tooltip is not clear about this.

I confirm that it wasnt me that has not enough influence.  I had a lot.  I had like 4k and it cost like 300 to maintained.

So it ends up I can suck like 300 of each strategic ressources, 10k manpower and numbers of technologies for... nothing  (except the cost of making the offer in influence of course).

If it's a bug I'll be eager to post my save game.

I think its two problems, (1) the proposal screen doesn't adequately explain why an AI is rejecting an otherwise highly positive proposal and (2) the AI is not properly tuned to manage its influence for science/trade agreements after the patch.

Yeah, this can be easily exploited (I've done it in games before). If you produce a lot of influence, you can find an AI that really wants a trade / science agreement with you and give them that in exchange for resources or star systems. Next turn, cancel the agreement and then do it over again. Ez exploit.

As Keimpe pointed out, this was supposed to have been fixed on 1.5.5 already. If you encounter a situation where it still accepts treaties it can not afford, please share the save. The AI is a complex beast, so being able to look into it in progress is crucial for troubleshooting.
