We've been investigating this issue. ES2 does have a 64 bit version that should run fine on Catalina, and did so in our tests, so my best bet is that in your cases Steam is still trying to run the 32 bit version.

Can you check if there are any output logs for the issue (you can find them in the install folder of ES2). Uninstalling and reinstalling the game may resolve the issue, as that should have Steam recheck which version to use.

We have received some reports of it not working, but as I mentioned, we think this may be a problem of Steam not switching to the 64 bit version after the OS upgrade, but we have no means of further investigation. So if you run into any problems, please let us know, and share any error files you may have.

Haveing the same issue.  Is there any way to download the 64 bit Mac OS version outside of Steam?  Are you working with Steam to provide them with the 64 bit version.  Steam has

on it's website "Notice: This product is not compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina. Click here for more information."  It seems that Steam does not even know that you have a version

that will work on Catalina.

Please keep us informed.

Steam already has the 64 bit version. That warning has been applied to a lot of games across the board regardless of their compatibility status, it seems.

I have heard from other players that the Steam Beta client with the new library misidentifies Catalina as a 32bit system and thus downloads the wrong version, but I have been unable to confirm that myself.

Are you using the Steam Beta client or the default stable client?

I am not using the Steam Beta Client and am having the same problem. Reinstall has not fixed the problem.

 Edit:
I reinstalled both Steam and ES2 and my problem was resolved. Game still gives a compatibility warning  upon startup and doesn't show when filtering Mac games in Steam.

I seem to be able to run Endless Space 2 just fine, but Steam is still displaying a warning saying that it won't run, and the game is hidden if I filter the library to show only Mac games. Is there a mistake in the metadata somewhere?

No I do not use the Steam Beta Client.  If Steam has the 64 bit version of ES2 it is not offering it to me as a download or an update.

I think I found out how to get Endless Space 2 to run in Catalina. You need to install the MonoFramework-MDK-4.8.0.macos10.xamarin.universal.pkg again. It's in

~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Endless Space 2/

Hmm... Maybe that explains why I've not experianced any problems with ES2 (besides Steam displaying a false warning that the game won't run). I Have Unity installed, so the Mono Framework probably came with that.

I've done a fresh install twice from Steam and Steam is only downloading the 32-bit version:

file ~/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Endless\ Space/Endless\ Space.app/Contents/MacOS/Endless\ Space

/Users/njw/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Endless Space/Endless Space.app/Contents/MacOS/Endless Space: Mach-O executable i386

How do I get Steam to get the 64-bit version?

ES2 and Endless Legend both work for me but I've had similar issues and it was because of the setup. Do you use an extra monitor? Do you use an eGPU? You will need to go through various combinations if you have both. For me working on the external monitor as main Mac screen but with my MacBook Pro as secondary screen and the eGPU was the solution. For sure you have to give extra rights to all in the application properties and check prefer eGPU. Didn't do anything special with steam other than making sure I'm using the latest steam client (just remove the old one and install the latest to be sure). Good luck!

I just bought this on a big Steam sale, and it wouldn't start for me even after trying multiple things to get it going:

  • Manually added Keyboard access (to monitor from any app) and Accessibility access in Security settings -- Have had to do this with other games like Pillars of Eternity
  • Tried the suggestion to reinstall the MonoFramework-MDK-4.8.0.macos10.xamarin.universal.pkg
  • Logged off and back on
  • Shut down and restarted
Eventually I just left it running, and even though it said it wasn't responsive I got to a black screen after maybe 5 minutes. After that, I force quit the app one more time, and on the next relaunch I finally got the visible prompt to grant the app access to remote volumes, which I need because I keep all my Steam game installs on an external 4TB drive with all my media and other big installations.

Are there any news on this topic? I quote myself from the Steam forum, with my macCatalina problem. Please, I just desperately want to play this game and it worked before the last macOS update...

"Hi,.
I've downloaded the game a few weeks ago and I tried it once and it started properly (I was able to start a game). Now it won't start anymore. As soon as the SEGA logo appears, it crashes.
I have a MacBook Pro and coincidence or not, I noticed this bug shortly after the last macOS Catalina 10.15.7.

It would be so great, if somebody could help me, because I want to play this gem already... :)"
