Hi i was wondering if there was any difference between spoken language in each faction. Does every Faction has their own language or is it a common one? (i'm making a dnd based on ES2 and FTL) thx in advance

so it's not something that we are 100% sure... i see. and what about their age, how many year does a hissho or another race live?

It's directly implied that a number of characters such as Horatio Prime and his five perfect clones are immortal, which suggests that the technology to cure aging was discovered before the game starts. Perhaps dust can cure aging. I'm not aware that the natural lifespan of any of the races were ever explicitly stated. This was previously discussed here.

Horatio, Sheredyn, Pilgrims, Vaulters, and United Empire are all human and thus might speak the same language. Sowers and Cravers were created by and Hissho were modified by the Endless so it's possible they speak the same language.

Seeing as how many languages we have on Earth and how little time languages need to evolve in different directions into basically completely different languages, I doubt that, at least as their first language. There might be a universal lingua franca.

Do we have a timeframe on how long ago (before ES2) the different human factions evolved from their common ancestors? Probably not …

I believe the Vaulters and Pilgrims broke off from the Empire at the end of Dungeon of the Endless, which was a little over two thousand years before Endless Space. Horatio broke off some time after that. I also believe that the Sheredyn are canonically still a part of the United Empire, they are just such a large mercenary group that they warrant their own faction. I'm not certain about any of that though.

It's quite possible they have real-time translator tools that make the differences inconsequential, that's a common thing for sci-fi. Though, since you have to research a tech to be able to communicate with minor factions, I imagine it's more along the lines of all the major factions agreeing to use a single language for convenience's sake.

...Or a combination of these things, for the more otherworldly factions (Riftborn, Choir)

we need more lore into the Endless serie, for creator like me, it's complicated to do with the little bit we have about the internal structure of Factions and other.....

yeah but sometimes we feel like what we are doing isn't right and while doing research we found that for some Factions, there is no real clues of how their civilisations is working internally outside of the little bit the games give us. I'll do with the logic behind the other post and what we discussed here. It gives me a better understanding of what could be their age and their language :)

You can actually find some useful info in the game if you read flavor text often. There are things like Body Language Institute out here which already tells a lot and some races have a precise explanation of their communication like cravers with their unique tech for Cathedral of the Swarm.

I mean hissho definitely have one word for "to die stabbing each other" so I guess they do. ^_^

I fell like we need to metion here two thing.

First is the fact that all factions have a set of names for people, ships and at least theit own planet. So they defenetly have or had a separate language at some point. The problem here is how many languges each faction has. We have Vodyani and Vaulters that started from single ship and supposed to have less differences in population at general than Lumeris and UI, that started from a planet full of cities and continents. Especially Lumeris. Like, does their clans have a languages on their own?

Second is sci-fy genre of the game. ME solved this problem via real-time translation. Why ES can't do that? So everyone speak on mother tangue, but everybody understand.
