Are pirates worth investing?

Good evening. I'm playing as the Vaulters Empire and I payed dust three times to pirates to understand how this mechanic works. However, I realized everytime I pay them, the amount of dust of the next payment increases, and I'm starting to resort to hacking to increase the "partnership" with them because of the need to pay the pirates regularly so they don't bother attacking me. In addition, they have done nothing in the gallaxy other than strolling around (the pirate level is set to "normal").  Should I try to keep the "alliance" or start to use my fleets to destroy them? Am I attacked by pirates if I start to explore the galaxy as a corsary without having friendship with them?

Usually, pirates are more of a nuisance and while you can pay them off so that they won't attack you, it is probably best to take them out more often than not.

Vaulters however have a very advantageous interraction, which can be one of the reasons why anyone else would want the pirates to be gone, is that you can teleport your fleets to any pirate lair you see IF you are at peace with the pirates, so you decide if you want that or not.

As far as them attacking your fleets, I have no idea, haven't played enough vaulters, however, if someone else is at peace with them you won't be able to attack them with your corsair fleets.

This sounds interesting: Do I build a portal in a system of mine and one in a pirate lair (there are lots of them), to teleport to it?

Pirate Diplomacy is better for factions like Unfallen and Umbral Choir, the first start very slow and have the Trusted Broker law from the very beginning so they can avoid military until they stabilize while at the same time ignore pirates who usually mess with vineships. And the second get totally screwed by pirate detection which is almost always way ahead of your cloacking.

I case you are allied with pirates faction (playing Vaulters) you can use all pirate lairs to teleport. No need to build portals these places.

Nope, they believe you're one of them. If you are allied, your common fleets are able to retrofit in pirates systems (lairs). Your corsair fleets have to switch to regular fleets again, before being able to retrofit.

How can I teleport to the pirate lair? should I build a portal in a system I possess and after that a option to teleport to pirate lairs is going to be enabled?

Sure, to teleport from one of your systems you need a portal.

Good evening. Groo, I wasn't able to retrofit in pirate systems. The UI tells me I'm only able to retrofit in systems colonized by me. I was trying to upgrade an explorer ship (Faering) for which I had already a new Faering design.

I'm not able to play ES2 at the moment, so I can't check out. Make sure to switch your corsair to regular fleet/ship first, before you try to retrofit. And recheck you have a non-aggression pact with pirates. Often AI players neglect your good relationship by influencing pirates faction within same turn you supported them. Anyway, I could be wrong about, but I don't think so. I. e. minor factions allow you to retrofit, when you have at least 50% good relationship (or was it even 25%)? Feedback appreciated. Same with feedback from other users, being able to check out.

Good morning. I wasn't disguised as a corsair when I tried to retrofit in a pirate lair. I haven't tried yet to retrofit at other minor factions home systems other than pirates though.
