No, you'll fall behind. Exclusively colonize the planets with the best T1 strategic production, and assimilate as many minor factions as possible. Minor factions are the easiest method of expansion for the Vaulters.

Captain, for the time being, I'm adopting a pacifist posture because I don't know what is going to happen in the second part of the galaxy (its shape is two-ellipses) and I just unlocked wormholes for travelling there. Perhaps I will need to make peace pacts with the Sophons or the Riftborn to counter, for instance, the Cravers or Hissho. I don't know. I'm afraid to start wars with them and need their help afterwards. Currently, I'm at Cold War with everyone at the first ellipse.
