I suspect it's a mix of the model design and the dodge. I believe I chose the team spirit tactic card. Gave my ships either a base or increased dodge/evasion chance of 20%. Not sure exactly.

It also looked like the Behemoth's destruction may have triggered the looping - maybe the ships false read as invalid targets after the behemoth's destruction but were still being targeted.
