Decreasing population in a conquered Riftborn system

Hi! I'm playing as Vaulters and I just settled a developed Riftborn system. I conquered it as pirates to make it neutral and used Argosy to build a colony, so I got all the buildings and population while not suffering the happiness penalty. However, the population seems to be (severely) 'starving' and I have no idea why? The system is content, it has surplus food (although Riftborn use food there's one Guardian there) and nice production. Fandom description says Riftborn can not starve. So what is happening here? How can I counter it?

Here's a screen of the system from the next turn after settling the system. On the first turn one pop (single Vaulter) died, here another one will die and I tried third turn - also a decrease is expected, so it's not a one-off thing. Does anyone know what is happening here?

Riftborn still starve, they just don't consume food. If you put other population types in the system, riftborn will starve last because their population increment value is always at 0 (like guardians)

Ok, but what resource deficit makes them starve? The system seems to have surplus of everything. What output would I need to increase (and by how much?) to stop the starvation?

It seems that the system has somehow aggregated -5000 stock of food. When you conquer system as pirates (at least playing Vaulters) the system is made neutral and marked as 'losing population'. Is this it? Shouldn't colonization stop the population loss?
