So, I've seen this in several games. It shows something is generating dust, but doesn't say what it is.

I actually figured this out while making this post. That is the income from my trade routes. It's kinda strange it's not written next to it.

It should be listing the reason, trade routes in this case as you figured out, I think you've just encountered a UI bug.
