Don't take this seriously :D

I like to think the planet has extremely simple life on it, single cell organisms if you will.  From the Riftborn perspective, these creatures are everywhere and feed on the minerals of the planet while releasing vast quantities of the signature gas around the planet in question.  After some study they have been named Busy, Ugly, Terrestrial Things for the constant toiling to feed on these mineral rich planets and the fear they cause in the Riftborn for how similar they appear to the blight stealing away their home reality.

Capable of forming incomprehensibly packed colonies when food is plentiful these single cell organisms have been known to undulate rapidly in a feeding frenzy, often bumping into nearby competing clusters with enough kinetic force to emit sonic shock waves that have been known to wreak havoc with the early warning scanners of passing recon patrols.

Truly, this is the stuff of nightmares.
