Please consider making many more Hero portraits, since getting a new hero from the same race and seeing the same face is... racist. Hehehehe :)

They all look amazing individually, fully animated with their own backgrounds. It'd be a plus for sure but I suspect that it takes a lot of effort just to produce one as the heroes are no longer one static artwork/picture. I remember way back that the devs of Civ 5 said the most labor intensive part of making a new nation was creating the animated leader screens and their throne rooms.

Giving them different names and background biographies might be a workable compromise in the short term.

Anytime I get to recruit a new hero, i see only the typical race portrait for each hero. So, basically, it looks like a clone!!

That's a vital part of the story in any game.

This must be an RNG thing because each major race has 4 different hero portraits.

Hmmm...

Okay. I still think not even one portrait should overlap.

I don't think we can get to the point where there are that many heroes per civ that it has to be many portraits.

During the notification for hero promotion, you get to see the hero and their background in a wide windowed pop-up (maybe it needs to be enabled? I went to options to turn all notifications on). You can see the hero and background animations clearly there. A hero like Daro St Taiage visibly moves their rifle and head against a background of snow. If the devs want their hero portraits to be of such quality, it might be too demanding a task for something without much impact on gameplay.
