(Question) Devs, just a quick thing about the unobtainable planets.

Given my history of modding, i am fairly familiar with XML code. The system you have in place isn't that hard to learn, in fact given how many files source their definitions, it is rather easy to make modifications here and there. When i started playing, i was generally bothered that i couldn't take every planet, and the turn limit pissed me off to no end. So i went directly to the planet weights, and made sure none of them spawn, and the SimVictory then jacked up the final turn to something i wouldn't reasonably obtain. While the timer change was much better, the lack of planet diversity didn't really make me enjoy the systems as much. I was wondering, considering the XMLs indicate that remaining colony techs are located in Era 4, and that Era 4 is clearly not in public hands, could you release a beta patch again to simply make all Era 3 techs unlock the respective planets?

Now, given probably two days for me to work out the technology system, i could, and likly will do this myself eventually. But i was thinking that it might be nice to the community to have it distributed publicly. I honestly don't think people will be mad if you gift them this, then take it away when Era 4-5 are ready. By that point we will be dealing with all the new stuff, like the possiblity of two new races, to care at all.

Oh and ive made it so the support corvettes can now use missile turrets, because its cool, and reinforces the role of support.

That was a lot easier than i expected, two days my ass, more like 15mins. Props to the Dev team for making an efficient XML system, i have seen much, much, worse. Granted, the layout is ugly, but i can take any planet i want now.

You could split the plantery colonization unlocks between all the colonization techs from Era I to III to make it look better. I did, and it looks okay. Not perfect but well, we're toying with a very unfinished product here, specifically trying to squeeze bonuses that will come in Era IV and V into the limited tech tree at our disposal so, can't expect perfection !


I second your comment though. Modding the game is incredibly easy, even more than ES1 according to my memories of it.

I had considered doing that, it wouldnt take too long to do it either. Besides, i now find myself cautious to colonise these planets for fear of happiness rape. Without further upgrades bonusing happiness it can become an issue. Unless you are Voydani.

It is nice to have well written and accessible XML. Back in EL1 beta, I spell/grammar checked the entire game for them.
