I feel like combat is too simplified in the entire game, as much as i like watching the spaceships destroy each other, it would be nice to have actually strategy on Ground Forces.


Like Endless Legend, ground forces could be given orders and fight on planet tiles. I think it would be a nice change of pace from the football style strategy of Space Combat. 

Upgrading ground units or even be able to add your Hero to the ground units seems amazing to me.

I totally agree with this. Ground battles are too simple right now, a little more variation would be awesome, even if they had more of a strategy choice like space battles do, where you can actually see the visible strategy take effect on the planet. Adding heroes to land battles would be great too, and I like the tile idea as well. Being able to direct troops to specific tile would add allot to the battle.

From what was communicated by developers I would not expect to have orders for ground forces.
You are the Emperor not General / Admiral.


But despite auto combat I still feel it is lacking.

First of all everything is the same at this point (all races have the same stats in combat).

And the choices are poor at the moment.

Improvements are comming in this are for sure.

If they change any single aspect of ground combat, I hope this is it. Give populations a specific strength value in ground combat. A Craver is literally engineered for combat, he should be more than capable of going toe-to-toe with a couple of Lumeris thugs.

I would also like to see some variety in ground units, like different infantry and tanks with different stats, maybe also a different battle map depending on the biome that you are fighting on. For example some more in depth graphics so you can actually see the forests, mountains, steppes etc.

I would like to see elite ground forces - Vodyani inquisitorial honor guard? Sophon mechanoid troopers? Craven berserkers? Unfallen scorchers?


Limited in how many can be deployed, but provide some nice faction flavor and differentiate ground forces a bit more.

I totally agree, some variety of ground force recruitment would be awesome, maybe with some of the unique resources allowing the production of these elite units. 

Also being able to see different strategies actually taking place would be awesome, as opposed to the exact same line formation with everybody shooting in front of them. I love ground battles, so improvement in this area would really make the game better for me.

Concur on this one. And i think there will be some updates on it. Is there an roadmap for ES2 anywhere btw? (or am i just blind, i searched for a while)


I like the look of ground combat though :)

I agree. The combat is, in my opinion, so boring and repetitive. Why not, some like: Star wars empire at war, or a turn based combat, like Battle for wesnoth? I dont know; do more fun, or more complex, or something.

I actually like how the space battles are repsesented. And what i looked in roadmap what kind of updates are planned it seems to add more depth into it. but this is just IMO
