System conversion by influence. How does it work?

Hi guys, can't find anywhere some advice to counter an enemy empire converting my system only by influence. There's a "buyout" option that most likely doesn't work and my gameplay is doomed: even if I reconquer back the system with superior military I'll lose it again the next turn. AI influence is so insane that can't find either where it starts, tried to conquer random enemy systems but its influence will never soften...started a new game in fact :(

The nearest AI (Orange) colonized system I could find is Pisces. It seems that its influence took over the whole galaxy and got no idea how to block it. Reasearched the "Cultural Flexibility" technology aswell but nothing happens. Doomed.

Thanks in advance!!

at the moment the only way to counter infuelce is by producing more (or if you manage to capture their system and raze it maybe)

i do hope that the addition of the spy system will add a way to counter influence from a system

I had this same problem with my first UE playthrough, when I emphasized too many military techs. Conquering the enemy homeworld sure countered  the effect just nicely

I agree...however I don't think it's working correctly. For example, in another game had UE controlled by ai with insane influence and my system with 130 influence couldn't counter it. If I remember correctly in endless space 1 we had contested areas. Now can't be contested at all, overruns everything and just spreads until AI home world is conquered..

I think I read some where that dav will tune this system for sure.

The biggest problem is the influence border has to be exponential growth. The larger it's the more influence it needs to grow. I understand if a nearby system generates so much influence that could overwhelm my systems but most of the time it's influences of super far and old system which is ridiculous.

Although if you have a good army, it's not that hard to deal with. Send them deep into the enemy's territory and find that system and destroy it.

There is this section in the design documents "

Influence affects an enemy node

A node owned by an opponent within the empire’s influence suffers from:

  • Economic penalties: loss of Dust and Science and slowing down outpost development;
  • Defense penalties: the system’s population provides less defensive power than usual

Moreover, if a certain technology has been researched a passive conversion countdown is triggered: each turn the difference between the influence generated by the influence system and the influenced system is added to a gauge.

  • When the gauge reaches a certain positive threshold, the system is ready for conversion, which needs to be bought in Influence.
  • When the gauge reaches a certain negative threshold, the system is saved from conversion

The threshold is defined by the system’s development. The conversion progress of a system is apparent both in system label and in system view."

So it looks like there will be ways to defend against enemy border corruption but also you will need to spend influence to buy it out so they wont get it straight away or straight after you take it back if they don't have the influence by the look of things :).

Its just not implemented atm

I think influence should only cap other empire's IF there is a declaration of war. Furthermore, if not at war, the influencer simply gets stolen resources AND the population of the planet can migrate automatically to nearby systems in the influencer's territory.

This mechanic should be nerfed, or better : being an exclusive technology of only ONE faction.

This is boring at most. I have to immediately enter War with any empire getting it.

I also discovered that AI allies can also hit you with a peaceful conversion, which doesn't make any sense. It makes sense that war prevents peaceful conversion and that peaceful conversion can hit during cold war or at normal peace. But when in an alliance, it's just plain un-ally-like to take someone else's system, right? That has to be a bug. Anyone know what the peaceful conversion for alliances is supposed to be?

What's even more annoying is that it doesn't look like there's any way to break an alliance once it's set up (unless I'm missing it). So, my AI allies started converting my systems and I had no way to go to war with them to take them back.

Hi,

Yes the AI isn't supposed to convert your systems in either Alliance or Peace (except for a few personality exceptions), we'll have to fix that. I guess your systems were just too juicy to ignore ^^

However you can leave an Alliance ! The button is very small and located right here (sorry for glitch, it's the current dev version):

Hope this helps,

Wow, not that i've ever even looked, because i ignore diplomacy ATM, but that button is tiny and really not very descriptive graphically.  Maybe a broken ring would look the part?

Ah! Indeed - that does help! Thank you! Just wanted to make sure it was on the radar.
