Hello,

I was playing a game with the Vodyani the other day. I couldn't really figure out how to produce Essence until the Lumeris came and colonized a system nearby. Then I used the a Leecher to abduct Lumerian colonists for Essence and all seemed fine, but I can't shake the feeling that there should be some sort of repercursions to this action. I'm producing an absurd amount of Essence per turn now and the Lumerians don't seem to give a flying duck about their people getting abducted.

Is this due to diplomacy still not being very mature at this phase in the game, or is essence gathering simply a passive gimmick with no negative effects?

What are your thoughts?

Well, I don't know how the AI handles this... but if a Vodyani does this to me I usually immediately declare war on them for such an audacious action. (it's also a nice excuse to have another war in case you got Jingoist paradise... :D)

I totally agree... to be quite honest, this sort of abductions should have a very deep diplomatic impact, but the AI doesn't (currently) seem to care at all about it.

On the other hand, I guess insta-wardec would also be a bit harsh to Vodyani players. Perhaps somewhere in-between there can be some changes to Essence harvesting designs...

One option that pops in my mind really quick is to make dedicated harvesting ships able to cloak... And any action except for moving and harvesting essence would force an uncloak with a cooldown of X turns. Other ships would still be able to harvest essence, but not be able to cloak. It doesn't even need to be called a "cloaking" mechanism, but rather be a passive thing that it's undetectable while harvesting... I hope I'm getting through with this without sounding too Trekky :P Of course, this needs to be counterbalanced through the implementation of detection mechanisms, etc, etc... but yes, this would be an example of how harvesting essence could be an interesting activity, as opposed to a passive "need to do this because it's race specific" thing.

Just throwing out thoughts out there...

It was hard to tell if they were related actions prior to the update, but I did have two separate races declare war after I started stealing their people. I haven't had a chance to play since the update, but apparently you can now see things that they like about you, and things they dislike about you in the diplomacy screen. Keep stealing their citizens and see if it shows up on the negative side.

Hey,

The AI is definitely tracking this kind of event, and we are currently working on the system to feedback it to players. It should come with the next update !
