I might be the minority here but i find it really frustrating to have to change my ark design back and forth 50+ times during a game

like the modules on the ship that affect FIDS in different ways i like to have different for each system, and ocasionally changing the specilization, and god forbid i need to create more combat freindly Arks - i have to do all of this with ONE ark design, it's really quite frustrating, in the late game i often have 4-6 different ark designs fielded at the same time, and i have to literally memorize the loadout of one of my designs, change the design to that, build or retrofit the ark, then change the ark again whenever i want to build something else - it's quite silly.

im unsure if im the only one who does this as vodyani, if i am then i'm probably just not playing the game the way it was intended, lol

Can't you add a new design which bases on the 'ark' hull type? That usually works with any other ship design.

Unfortunately no. There is only one Ark design and all you can do is modify it.

To loop this in with the other thread somewhere on these forums, if the Arks were treated as heroes, that would also allow the player to modify the ships on an individual basis. Because the FIDS modules would be an upgraded design, they'd always end up costing Dust to install, which would also help with the lack of balance they currently suffer.
