Whenever a ship travels to another system through the constellation path, it is basically stuck on that path until it reaches the other system.

It is annoying that I can't backtrack immediately to the system I came from. Could this be changed. Thank you!

There's nothing to fix as this works as intended. The ships are not supposed to backtrack once on the path. It's the same mechanism as in ES1

I could definitely see a mid to late game tech added though, that allows you to do exactly that.

Oh thanks, I never played ES1 do this mechanism seemed weird to me, however I do hope a tech is added to fix this.

Think of this as planning an inter-stellar jump that will take some time (turns) to execute, but impossible to stop without destroying your ship in the process due to speeds/energy expenditure involved.

Think wormhole for the normal travel via the node path. You just can't turn while you are inside the wormhole. (Isn't there a ST DS9 episode where a ship is lost in the Bajoran wormhole and they fly around in that wormhole? Anyway not possible in the ES univverse.)

The warp drive on the other hand should be able to be changed during flight. And also I would like to see some forced warp drive key binding. In ES1 you were possible to use Warp Drive by clicking ALT right or was it CONTROL right? I wasn't able to force a warp drive. The game automatically used it if this would take less turns than the node travel.

Hi,

It will be available eventually, and we'd also like to have a waypoints mechanic where you can specify the path for your fleets.

We'd also like being able to force a fleet to use a free move instead of following the star lanes at some point

(It's somewhere in my list, but not validated yet so don't quote me on this )

Yay! I had feared that force-warp might have become a casualty of accessibility, due to some ES1 players not knowing how to do it. So I am very glad that advanced feature will be making a return.

As I said, nothing is validated yet. So it might or might not make a return

Make it a shift-click.

Done.

This feature might enable a very cheesy strategy though. You would be able to keep fleets invulnerable by constantly changing directions on a long star lane. Retreating fleets could be saved from harm indefinitely until reinforcements arrives.

Yes - both of these (waypoints and forced free move) would be great additions to the game.

If the ability to do this is implemented, it might necessitate some other limitations. E.G. if you change your move direction mid-warp, your movement points don't reset.  If you run out of movement points, the ship automatically heads towards the last plotted course.   Something like that?

Ships explode randomly and without warning if direction changes more than once.

It would be hilarious.
