Systems currently show approval breakdowns when you mouseover the approval. But without going through the numbers yourself, it doesn't display how much over the approval cap of 100% you are, making it unwieldy to know how much leeway you have in colonising additional worlds or systems.

Please add the total approval to this breakdown.

Mmmm... Good observation. Never thought about where my excess approval went and how could I use this (as you say as a shield to overcolonization disapproval).

I would like to see this as well. Did you post an official Idea about it?

But... why showing total approval beyond 100%? isn't that number enough to figure out what you need to colonize other planets? also -10 disapproval for colonizing a system is a tiny debuff... it only gets significant when stacked a lot. like -60,-70 or even -100.

I believe 100% approval that is showed in game is already more than enough we need. If we reach a cap of 80% approval in our empire or 90%, we get devoted that grants a bonus. if we reach smaller than 50% in our empire we start losing significant stuff in our colonies.

But if the only concept that matters is if the happyness falls to a significant amount (below 50 or 70, for example) why should people worry about excess approval if it has no influence in our game or  touches the game in a significant way?

Is it even necessary to make a idea of such?

You don't understand?

If I'm at 200%, I have a lot more room to expand than at 100%. I'd like to know this, without going through the numbers and adding/subtracting by hand.

Yes but... it doenst matter if you have 200%, 300%, or even 500%. It only matters when you have a significant low number, like 50% or 70%. And before that rate happens... you might already discover you have 90% approval or something like that.

This means if things get bad only if you have a significant low number of approval, and you have more than a warning of approval at 100%, 90%,80%... i dont see why it is necessary to know you have 250% approval if that means nearly nothing to you, as the buff won't increase nor decrease and you can easily figure out when things are going bad.

... Right?

Yes, but I'd rather not play 'let's discover' by  checking after colonizing a new planet or a new system over my colonization limt, nor do a lot of maths in my head.

Create an IDEA for it so that we can upvote it.

A simple way of doing this would be that instead of saying 100 when capped, it should display the actual number. Say 127% or whatever it is. That would be great.

That's basically all that's needed! It could even only show up on the mouseover text.

Now that you mention it, I have to wonder why it DOESN'T just show your total approval?  It wouldn't have to change any other parameters or give additional buffs; it would only be a visual change that saves time starting at menus.

I agree with this notion.  If I see it in ideas it will get my vote.
