So I'm trying to get all the victory type and i figured i would try to go for conquest with the sophons. In my map it required me to hold -51- systems. That's 51 / 12 of overcolonization. I spent the last few turn pressing end turn just so i could get the science victory instead while a third of my system fell to anarchy. Maybe the over extension penalty should scale with galaxy size ? I was playing with a large galaxy so maybe that's why it was impossible.

It seems a little silly you have to conquer so much of the galaxy, and scaling for size and a million other things just seems a little much. It would be easier I think to ditch the galaxy size scaling of Conquest, and say the player has to own a portion of all settled systems.

That way you can win by destroying a significant enough number of other peoples systems as Vodyani, still afford to raze systems in a pinch so long as you make sure other people are losing theirs, and be able to win through normal colonization if your opponents are too slow to expand. And really, if you own half of all systems with people on them, does it even matter if you don't own half the galaxy over all?

You've basically chosen a least fit faction for this victory type, this is why it seems impossible. The key to this victory type is to get Religious party in your senate and apply "Saints & Sinners Bill" law - something the most hard to do with Sophons, but still doable, if you have a lot of Kalgeros or Eyder in your population, or if you switch to more strict government type.

Couple of tips to fulfill victory condition:

1. Play Vodyani or Riftborn (both can easilly support religious faction allowing you to remove overcolonization issue) and at the same time cover costs of law that sets approval to content no matter what.

2. Ally 2 other races. Researching alliance tech at the same time allows you traiding technologies and AI vallue them very high so it's easy to bribe them to alliance.

3.  Conquer colonies from non-allied factions.

Or just do it a harder way: play cravers, switch to religious faction during first elections, use mass aproval law (invest heavily in influence since covering 3 influence / population on cravers isn't too easy) and conquer needed amount of systems. Don't forget to send couple of cravers to every newly colonized system so all population on it could benefit from +100% FIDS due to slavery.

I've achieved this type of victory on Endless Difficuly as Vodyani (they're well kited for genocide as well, just takes longer to get rolling then cravers and it's tiring recolonizing every system after you've "captured it" as vodyani).
