AI knows fleet's owner even when it's masked. I've turned fleet of 7 small ships into pirates and blockaded Cravers outpost. Immidiately I've received diplomatic message of their anger at me.

Sad.

Weird. Do you have a screenshot of the fleet and the diplo message? It could have even been about something else.

Well never tried on AI but the player knows by looking the ship whose this anyway. So why should AI get any disadvantages?

Player sees neutral hulls. It even masks vehicles and and aircrafts from manpower stats and shows only infantry for ground invasions in fleet tooltip. Of course player can easily identify such fleet by its behavior and routes, but otherwise its indistinguishal from neutrals.

Actually, you can only turn mercenary ships into privateers. That means no faction ships in the fleet.

I forgot to mention, that I'm using Vaulters' improved privateer action, so my faction ships are masked. Still, AI shouldn't know they belong to me.

Well, the Vaulters aren't out yet - so we've no idea if this is intended behaviour or not.

It's not unreasonable they the AI would know whose ships they are after a battle, given they look like Vaulter ships. But until there's a battle, there's no way to tell.

Hi folks!

We've noticed odd, inconsistent behaviors regarding mercenaries/privateers and read a few reports of the AI being able to see through their disguise.

An issue is logged in our database, so we'll be looking into the matter :)

Cheers,

I had the same problem when I was playing the Vaulters on Endless difficulty and Endless game speed. I made a privateer fleet and when I blockaded my opponents system, he immediately turned hostile and on the next turn, declared war.

I'm pretty late to the party on this, but I finally gave Vaulter privateers a chance in my last game.  It was great that I could invade systems without having to conquer them, but the AI always knew the privateer fleet was mine.
