So I'm playing through as the Vaulters, neighbors are Riftborn, and they decide to colonize a single-planet system that's already within the zone of Influence from my homeworld. Because the AI's colonization choices are completely ludicrous, but we already know this, that's not the important thing. The important thing is the instant I research Cultural Flexibility, I get a message demanding I stop assimilating their world.

All right. A bit early in the process as the assimilation bar is at 0%, but all right. Obviously, I refuse, and am met with an indignant response, a declaration of war, and a diplomatic response of them increasing the influence output of their homeworld at the expense of Dust. Mmmmmmkay. I mouse over the relation box and see the following words:

"You peacefully converted one of our systems."

Mhmmmmmm... Kind of an odd thing to complain about given I, you know, hadn't yet. Or even made any process towards that.

Can someone turn the dial on the AI's "Schizophrenic Paranoia" down from 11 to maybe, like, 4? These guys have gotten completely irrational over the last few patches.

As another side note, I just moused over the Vodyani who are Hostile because "You were Hostile towards us." I don't think I've even seen any of their ships.

In one of my games, the AI did what you did here. And my reaction was the same what the AI did to you. Seems just natural to me.

It seems natural to colonize a single planet adjascent to an enemy homeworld?

I was talking about the DOW obviously. Other than that, blockade their outposts, then increase your influence over that system, close borders and be done with it.

Or declare war yourself.

Colonizing a single planet world at your very doorstep? To me this sounds like a staged incident. The Riftborn clearly looked for a reason to start a war against you. A clever move, not a bug :)
