Bad spatial awareness when managing colonies through the colony reminder screen: Solution

When managing many colonies I found it hard to remember which colony was where. Everytime I click on the reminder pop up, it brings me right into the system view.

What I do often then, is to zoom out, get a feel for where I am, and remember what that colony was supposed to do. E.g. move population, but is there enemy presence blocking it? Or is that colony close to the enemy: So I focus warfare / influence stuff. Or is it a secure system that can go on long term development. Do trade routes work here? Pirates nearby? What are enemy arcs/leechers doing in the vicinity? Stuff like that I tend to evaluate a lot.

So while the production-finished reminder screen gives a nice overview, another way to navigate empty building queues would be awesome. A button that works exactly like the "cycle idle fleet" butto, but instead it is "cycle idle system".

Would be consistent with GUI and functionality!

Cycle idle system would scroll to the idle system, but not enter it. Instead zoom level would be set to detail view distance:

I agree it would be better that way. Depending where said colony is, we may have different things in mind for them. For example we want our core worlds to be powerhouses while our far away outposts might focus more on defense from invasion. Also, some colonies may be used mostly to crank out ships due to their industry and proximity to potential enemies...

I love this idea, I've been thinking of something similar since I love playing larger galaxies but keeping track on all the systems ends up a hassle. My idea was to allow you to cycle between systems even when they're not idle, since there's times I've forgot systems who're doing something like Planet Cracker when I could've given them new system improvements or terraformed.

But... but... but... you can already do that. When you're in System view, there are arrows towards the top left and right that you can click to go to the next system.

I like the idea a lot. You should post it to the ideas page. Sadly, there are so many ideas that it looks like it's hard for any one idea to gain attention. But I looked at your current ideas and upvoted a lot of them because they seem like great improvements to the UI.

Oh, I know that one! Although I admit, I had completely forgotten it, thanks for reminding me! Made things easier to manage. c:

Still I'd like a way to cycle through systems on the galaxy screen for when you can barely remember the names of them and what they're doing, so you can quickly see if any system has the Planet Cracker on infinite in the little "latest queue" screen you see.

This is especially a problem now with Vaulters where I got systems spread randomly across the galaxy!

Think @Dreppa proposition goes more into the way of knowing where your systems are and the status of closer nodes, which is not reflected into system view. Of course you havve the arrows and some decisions are better taken looking at system view, but other decisions like moving pop (you have to ensure there's no enemy ship into your path) are better made from galaxy view.

Said that, IMO a good QoL improvement. If you decide to make an idea, just PM me to upvote it.

Cycling through systems in a galaxy view? Yes please! It would make managing many systems spread out through galaxy so much easier and faster! I also would like to see an option to cycle through them all (and not just idle). I think this feature comes out for fleets soon, so why not for systems as well?
