A thought occurred to me concerning species selection, and if you'll indulge me a moment of your time, I'd like to suggest an additional feature to Endless Space 2. 

To preface, I primarily bought Endless Space 2 for my wife, and have not personally logged a whole lot of time in the game, myself. Aside from its turn-based nature existing outside my RTS-comfort-zone, I've reflected on why the game isn't clicking with me. I believe it comes down to not really knowing anything about the lore or the species. The racial selection menu provides a general impression. I am aware that, in an internet-age, that there are wikis that would ameliorate this deficiency- but this issue, I believe, can be addressed within the framework of the game.

I suppose my line of thinking reflects the bygone days of when video-games shipped as physical media, complimented by manuals which doubled as source-books. I think of the early Blizzard games, such as Starcraft, or Starsiege (of Dynamix and Sierra), which came with its own sourcebook of sorts. By the time you finished Starcraft's manual, you understood not just what the Terrans, Zerg, and Protoss were, but who they were as well.

Endless Space 2 has its introductory videos. I've only watched through three (Human, Sophon, and presumably the Vaulters via their trailer). Naturally, I've formed a preference for those factions simply because I know that much more about them. The issue at hand, thus, is that the only way to see these videos (ignoring Youtube, and staying within the framework of the game) is to commit to launching a playthrough. As a player, I'm not necessarily committed to actually playing as that species, I just want to access that introductory video to learn more about them.

A simple solution (presumably?) would be to make an addition to the main menu, where newer players have the option of accessing the species' introductory videos without having to immediately initiate a game. While this risks making the videos redundant when launching an actual match, it's simple enough to skip the cinematics already. Since the files are already local, this ammendment would alleviate the need to seek out third-party sources (youtube, wikis) for information we technically already have.

I know this is a very specific quality-of-life suggestion, but I believe it would help ease some of us into the game.

You should definetely make this an Idea :)

One of my painful issues is that whenever you start a multiplayer game, the intro videos do not even play... And since I almost exclusively play multiplayer I rarely ever see them. The intro videos always played in previous Endless titles I don't understand why they won't this time around.
