I made an Idea (here) about new civilian type ships that would have functions other than military. Seems like there would actually be more of these types of ships than military ships in any real space development, but hey, this is a game right. but there should at least be SOME ships that do stuff other than destroy.
Some of the new civilian ships could have a BIG impact, such as creating new wormhole lanes, or stealing enemy resources, while ideas others are more fun - spacefaring tours, new terraforming options.
My favorites are the trade mission ships and science modules. I also really like the idea of religious conversion, but I'm still not convinced on how that should work.
Well... For me, when you say civillian ships it gives me the impression we are talking about ships filled whit people who colonizes planets. Thats really weird for me, as the ships and ideas you gathered over there are not exactly civilian... they are... something else, in which i still believe we must find a adequate name for that.
I recommended Travellers, as they travel the galaxy and expand it in their tour... i think it is very good name for it but, Well, you're the owner of the idea anyway! :)
I think those Travellers, Or Civillian ships should help in expanding the galaxy trough peace... But what makes me even more wondering is... !!!!!

And if your trade missions could ONLY be applied to Different Empires?
And if there was certain stuff you could trade... that can Only be traded via other empires?
Thinking a little better here, it doenst really make much sense if a empire keeps trading inside itself... but and if we could expand those trade routes for different empires for MASSIVE bonueses? I think that would be a real, true trade! eh? :)
Well another thing i believe civilian ships could also do: Upgrade military ships. Of preference, i mean... upgrading Minor Faction ships. As if you could sit in a significant amount of turns close to minor faction ships and, they like... Research those medium ships, or even pirate ships captured via pod... and when the research is complete, you CAN , actually... retrofit its ship. because you will see in your military screen at fleets tab the design of that ship over there. And you can even see the Cleaner modules! How amazing!!!
Imagine if i could retrofit cleaner ships... and if i research a certain upgrade... i can make it A CARRIER. woa!!! But of course, this carrier would instead... Cost... A... Lot... Of... Dust... to... be... maked... like... OMG!... And vaulters could make this carrier whit a hefty bunch of minerals like titanium, adamantian and others... like... 50 of each :O #Free instacarrier
Ah, in order to be able to get that carrier.... it would be necessary for the Traveller ship (im starting to fear it <3) to stay close to the minor faction ship for even more turns. The ship retrofitting for minor faction should take a slight/ significant amount of turns and also have some dust cost (small or medium) to guarantee you can retrofit the ship in time to make Wars.
Ah, there would be another option called "Combine" that comes when you research a whole fleet of minor factions (if you merge minor faction ships you will be able to combine even more ships) so if you get 3 small ships... you can combine them for a medium ship... and if you do not have 3 ships of the same type well... you can't combine them. :D
Altrough it just makes me wonder if combining fleets and upgrading minor faction ships would be a good idea... since sometimes, selling them for free manpower and less dust upkeep is simply so much a good idea... and could they get powerfull enough to combat other hand-made fleets by players? I only believe one carrier ship will be able to counter most fleets in late game if compared to a medium ship... against, 5 different medium ships, Y'know.
About the Religous Conversion Ships... Isn't that actually simple? After all, Most Faiths are Spread by Ships.
In concept - yes. In terms of game mechanics, there are a variety of ways to go. I like an influence related path with a progress bar modified by a variety of factors. Who can really say what would work - the designers!

Now this IS an idea. Resources only obtainable through trade... so you are thinking a new luxery resource? pretty cool. Of course, trade within a galactic empire is already accomplished through the trading companies, so i was already imaging only trade with other emptires - It could also be tandemed with visiting dignitaries and potentially religious conversion could be hidden within these trade missions - covert takeover!

I do like the idea of being able to retrofit minor civ fleets and steal pirate ships - seems like this would be more of a system improvement - a new building that has thew capacity to retrofit alien designed ships instead of the ships of the player faction. Alien shipyards - maybe you should make this a new IDEA? I"ll vote for it :D
Now for the combining... sounds like the borg! I could see this as a special faction ability. Maybe this is what the new Spectre race do. It would indeed be something to fear! All good ideas man. keep em flowing

Also about new resources... i wasent REEEEEEALLY thinking about a way to get Exclusive resources trough trade. but... !

This resource... can ONLY be used to trade. And it is worth.... DUST. tons, tons, TONS of dust. we can sell it for a massive profit!!!
Maybe That would be the extra massive influence bonus we could get!
This resource must have something to do whit...
Wait, what else could two empires, when united together doing a work for making X thing... do?
For example, there is influence, which by the name explains more or less how it works... i'd like to make a resource similar to influence in "utilization" or story... that for example, it exists like this:
When two empires meet themselves man to man (or something to something allien stuff) they make a work to create X thing. Or they create a relation which build X thing... DARN IT! i need to figure that out :/
