Disabling Behemoths through options

Dear devs. Please give us the option of disabling behemoths through the game setup advanced options. I have disabled Supremacy and set the Behemoths to only occur after the cooperative quest. Then I disabled multiplayer quests/events but the quest still pops up. I don't believe Behemoths (particularly Obliterators) are in a good place right now for reasons already discussed in other threads in this very forum and would like to play without them until changes are made. However, I cannot seem to do so.

For now, ES2 will sit, collecting dust, until things are balanced and Obliterator spam is a thing of the past.

Does it disable Hissho?

Yes, but not the Behemoths. The Behemoth unlock cooperative quest still triggers, even with cooperative and competitive quests disabled in new game setup.

That's pretty weird.

Can you disable the expansion from the Steam DLC screen?

Hello,

Thank you for your report.  I've tried to reproduce the issue on our side but unfortunately couldn't.  Would you happen to have a save we could take a look at where this issue happens?

Are you sure that it doesn't disable behemoths even if the quest still triggers? Does the option to decide whether behemoths should require the quest or not still appear?

I would actually like to see an option to disable behemoths with the Supremacy DLC still active for Hissho. I may look into modding this if I can, as it'd require some tweaks to Hissho also to make them compatible with no behemoths.

The option to disable the quest does not appear with Supremacy disabled, so I am currently running tests to see if the quest only triggers if the setting is enabled to require the cooperative quest to trigger prior to deselecting the Supremacy DLC through the Content settings. Will report back shortly.

That sounds an excellent option!

I've managed to reproduce the issue, but Aitarus was correct. Even though the quest Words in Private triggers and the reward "Reveals Behemoth Technologies" is acquired, no behemoth technologies manage to appear on the Tech Tree. I will continue to play with these settings to make sure no other artifacts from the Supremacy DLC happen to appear. In the meantime, here is a save file and here are some relevant screenshots:

Save FileImpossible UE4Spiral - No Supremacy.sav

Supremacy Disabled:

Game Setup and Advanced Options:

Quest Triggers on Turn 11:

Completed on Turn 33:

No Behemoth Tech:

I wanted to share the screenshots to show that even though I had cooperative quests disabled via the new game setup's advanced options, this quest still triggered, even though the DLC was also disabled.

I went back to the main menu, enabled Supremacy, and changed the New Game option to not require the cooperative quest to unlock behemoth tech. Then I once again disabled Supremacy and started a new game. I went 15 turns and the cooperative quest Words in Private had still not triggered. It seems the quest appears under a very specific set of circumstances, which I will outline here:

To Reproduce this Bug:

  1. Make sure Supremcy DLC is enabled in Content
  2. Set up Advanced Options to require the cooperative quest to trigger behemoth tech.
  3. Disable Supremacy DLC in Content
  4. Start New Game.

Words in Private should trigger as I suspect the trigger for the quest is still active if you enable the cooperative quest requirement before you disable the Supremacy DLC.

I'd still like to see this option added. I like Hissho more than I thought I would, and I understand some of their bonuses and quests are related to behemoths, but after playing a few games with Supremacy now I really feel like behemoths are absolutely awful and I have no interest in playing with them ever again. Even ignoring obliterators, the other behemoth types are just poorly implemented and stomp all over normal gameflow in a very detrimental way. They are ugly, too common, trounce all over early-mid game fleets, and the economic ones don't make sense, have lopsided balance between modules, and the mining ones are ridiculous levels of micro. This is the first time in ages that I am fully disabling a DLC for a game, I just wish I could keep some of the content so it doesn't feel like such a waste of money.

Same. I really love the idea of behemoths, but they seem to have been implemented in a game-flow breaking way.

Agreed. However, the work required would be enough that I doubt we'll see this without a mod. It's not on Amplitude's priorities, and I kinda agree - there are plenty of balance and gaemplay issues that I'd rather they address before this.
