Hi,

Just making a custom faction, noticed "Pirate slayers" trait costs 5 points. IMO it should have a 0 cost, as this one is not positive (forbids you negotiations with pirates) and nor negative (gives you twice loot)

Just my opinion.

If you want to kill pirates Pirate Slayers is pure positive. If you don't want to kill pirates then there's no reason to have the trait at all.

Hence it has acost.

A valid point.

Still I feel it is, like Corsairs, dependant on how you will deal with pirates in your games. May be someone can think of using the inability to deal with pirates as a negative trait to compensate for another positive one in a non militarist custom faction.

Just because you can use it as a negative does not make it a negative. Just because Eternal War has no practical downside to a military faction doesn't mean it should have a 0 cost. Just because Poor Strategists actually reduces your collateral damage duing an invasion doesn't mean it should have a cost instead of a bonus.

Cost/Bonus is determined based on whether the effect is overall positive or negative. Not whether its positive or negative for a given playstyle. That's also the reason faction affinities have different total values, some are just weaker in exchange for flexibility. Though I don't always agree with the relative value of affinities or traits.

Well, this is the reason I was asking for that.

didn't disagree with your general post, indeed thinking in the same way. this is just that I don't agree with a specific trait cost.
