Should the devs focus their efforts on the multiplayer aspects of the game?

Reply
Yes, because multiplayer is a very intersting aspect of the game that should be improved
No, because its more important for the devs to create Expansions like Vaulters DLC or Supremacy DLC that can help them to afford extra money to continue the game, and improve it in some way
No, because they should focus in improving the AI because this adversary is great for most people to have fun whit, even whit all his strategical flaws and limits, and improving its difficulty even further will help people to have more fun whit it, since Singleplayer is more important than multiplayer.

It has been sometime in this G2G plataform that i created my idea, A New Multiplayer  System.

One of the biggest flaws in it, is that, its just, maybe... too big  to be implemented, but in my vision, it can really improve a very important aspect of the game and make it much better, and possibily making ES2 a more multiplayer game instead of a singleplayer game.

My main point when i created this idea is that, When i bought this game, i thought i could play it like, forever. That i could create great relations of power whit other peoples , "cheat" my way trough the victory, and be like a true emperor commanding an empire in a very strategical envoirment.

Problem is, once i played a few matches, i realised things weren't absolutely as i thought. I could fight other players, Sure, i could talk to other players, Sure... But i felt like as if something very important was missing in those battles. I don't know if many people judge that this factor is important for me as it is for other people but...

I believed that the constant come-and-go of people created an uneasy atmosphere for me, where instead of playing whit real people, in the end, i would play whit bots.

I felt like i was illuding myself when i built my empire to have a great wars whit other players.

Why would i build and develop my empire if in the end, the game will last about 3 hours at maximum and no one will stop it to continue in a later period of time?

That really checked me off screen, and made me feel a little bored in relation to ES2.

Then, i created this idea, in wich, i believe, it could solve this problem. But its been about a really significative amount of time, i've been improving it and tweaking it since then, and i believe that, my idea, is currently ready to be checked up by the devs if they accept it or not.

Many people said to me before: "Ah, but dev time is money. They have to be constantily making stuff like DLCS all the time in a non-stop circle so people can buy those stuff consume it until it becomes useless and they need another dlc and so on, and making free stuff like that multiplayer system can consume a lot of time and they definetely do not want that for them"

But in my vision, there is another factor that this thesis did not consider: By improving the game in a vast aspect and making a major overhaul in it (that people can really like) you change the game so much that its possible that many people find even more fun in it than before. And more important than selling DLC all the time in an endless cycle of use-and-consume, is to have a great game that everybody loves.

Sure, i know many people love the game currently the way it is, but maybe improving it that way can even increase the playerbase in multiplayer, or rise up the sales?

And then, based on this view and questioning, i decided to create this poll to see if people would like to have the devs working more on the multiplayer aspects of the game , just stick around whit how things currently are.

I just hope i can make this game better for everyone :)

No b/c this isn't a multiplayer-centric game?

There are numerous other things they should be focused on (two of which you listed) and it doesn't even make sense to pose a question like this for 4x strategy game that isn't designed around multiplayer in the first place.

This question would be more appropriate for a first-person shooter RPG, where you have both the single player campaign and the multiplayer game-modes, or an open-world game such as Destiny 2 or Bioware's upcoming title Anthem or any other types of games that are designed (in a major way) around multiplayer.

I appreciate the sentiment in wanting to give your vision of the game more visibility, but keep in mind that it is exactly that: your vision. We have ours, and we have our own production constraints and pipeline, and none of it involves overhauling the multiplayer system in a significant way.

l think we can't push it too hard .multiplayer require players to spend more time and play the game with speed,no one could win the game at ease.if you want to win you need sacrifice  someting to the game. as to endspace2 if you see other player quiet the game.you should consider youself win the game and stop the game at once.

Even though it would be great to have a stable multiplayer base, changing AI is much more important. It is rather weak in many aspects (mostly diplomatic and warfare) and needs some serious tweaks.

The AI is by far the most important part of the game. There will be very few instances of game play that is multiplayer, and even fewer where it is only multiplayer and no AI.

As an example of why the AI is so important here is my experience.

I've played against Craver AI on ervey game to date and there is always the same pattern. Cravers rush planet colonization and thus get wormhole tech and movement bonuses, which when combined with powerful ship designs, FIDS bonus, Big Fleets, anit-blockade mechanic that make colonization insanely fast and Dictatorship (I don't care if you're unhappy, what can you do about it? Hahaha!!!), makes them stupidly powerful early game. This continues throughout the game too as there is little that the Craver AI can do but war and consume.

By the time most factions have 4/5 colonized systems and are balancing their economy the Cravers have 10+ colonized systems, have wormhole tech, probably discovered the Academy and have colonies in at least 2 different constellations gaining the boost for that constellation. On top of that the depletion mechanic means that early habitable planets are screwed over if you manage to push the Cravers out, giving the Cravers another boost to winning the game by depriving the other factions of good planets.

Whether you have a fast fleet or not, it's still not fast enough to stop the Cravers taking many good planets as the whole pattern to explore (movement) and colonise planets are linked. Cravers get another additional boosts and strong ships for war.

Unless the devs get to grips with how the tech for colonization/movement works and the AI is balanced across factions, this game is going straight down the path of Civ 1 through 5, where it's all about land (planets) grab and selecting only the most war ready faction for conquests. Let's hope that doesn't happen because we really want a different game to Civ.

My only issue with multiplayer is lack of balance. That part of the game is much better than single player, but gets way too little attention :( I don't even bother playing with AI, it's boring.

It never been a problem to find people in ES1 to play to the end (more than half of my friend list on steam was made during all-night games with random people in ES1). With ES2 I actually managed to convice friends to try the game and they loved it, showed it to their friends and... Suddenly we have group of 8 people playing Endless Space 2 and Endless Legend and our only issue is weak balance between races and lack of bugfixes. Especially in Endless Legend...

The multiplayer functionality is pretty solid in my humble opinion. My only real issue is the consistent desynching problems. The game permits modding so if enough people want balance changes in multiplayer, the modding community could easily get together and create multiplayer balance mods.

I believe the most important in ES2 is the single player experience (hence why all the awesome cinematics, lore, quests etc). Switching the focus onto MP is just not something I would envision or encourage myself...

planning a game around playing it to completion in one sitting, is hard if you have friends that play the game, even harder if you're just finding random people online......

Have you tried do organise it in schedudled seetings ? (e.g. once or twice a week)

The "one sitting" of X hours requirement would definitely put me off.

If you still encounter desyncs, please report them, as we're always on the lookout for new desyncs to quell (and doing our damnedest to avoid adding new ones).
